The Old Folks Home

@perchie.girl you would love it here with all the Amish horse drawn buggies, wagons and farm equipment. There are harness shops everywhere. This morning we saw one of the 7 year old Amish boys drive a team of two big draft horses harnessed for work up the road walking behind them, reins in hand. It's a scary fascinating thing to see. This kid is about as tall as one of the horse's front legs and he's idly walking behind them with his hands full of reins and the rest tossed over his shoulder.

All it would take is something spooking those big Belgium/Percheron crosses and the kid would be flying behind them like a flag flapping in the breeze. Then I remember they are Amish trained and pretty much bomb proof as far as spooking is concerned.

I never heard my chickens scream like that. That’s what woke me up. I grabbed my slippers and took off after them but couldn’t find them. I could only hear them. I came back up to check on the rest and that’s when I found the carnage
We had a chicken tractor with chicken wire before i learned from experience. I was on vacation and got the call, "There are dead chickens everywhere!" Found out later the neighbor down the road had 3 big dogs she let run loose. I had many run ins with them before i solved the problem. Those dogs killed every POL chicken in the chicken tractor. Also every quail in a hutch they broke into. Now i only use chicken wire to divide groups of chickens inside a coop.

I'm so ticked off at Dh I could spit nails. I've calmed down since day before yesterday, but not much. Grrrrrrrrrr.

understand that had painting to do at the silky coop needed help but did not even get a chance to ask he snapped at me so went out to get the paining done some wire needed pulled started to do it fell down knee is swelling fell on the right one took tramadol waiting for it to kick in go clean my main coop

I'm beginning to see a different side of Amazon. Dh ordered a fuel pump for his zero turn Fri. He paid 11.09 for 2 day shipping. Later I ordered on a different card another adapter for my dishwasher I paid 5.39 shipping.
My total was 13.98.they charged my bank twice for my order and they put my item in the same box as dh's fuel pump he paid 11.09 shipping for.
I called them today to ask them to return one of my 13.98 charges. And that's when they told me it was being shipped with DH fuel pump.
I told her he paid 11.09 for 2 day shipping. And if he was not going to get the 2 day shipping they should adjust the shipping.
Then the pic of the adapter they are sending me is a male adapter. I told her I already have one it won't work. I told her the item I bought said it was female.
Then she said I could return it. But I will have to pay the shipping!
I think I will stick with ebay.
I dont get double charged and most times I get free shipping!
I feel ripped off.
I know she gave me a promotional credit for dh's shipping but that's only good for stuff sold by Amazon not their sellers. So who knows when well use it. And if I had not checked or paid attention they would have made a bundle off of us. I dont like it.
That is bad. Odd that the same seller had both the fuel pump and the dishwasher faucet adaptor. I've not had bad experiences with Amazon but like others mentioned, I check not only for a LOT of reviews of a product but also EXCELLENT reviews of the seller.

Might be, I thought that, but I don't have a rooster.. Could it be she's trying to play mom??
I don't have a rooster either. And I have had many birds that thought they could hatch pine shavings. But I've never had one be broody on the roost, always hogging a nest box.

It's like 2,000 feet above the nearest water, if it floods they ain't going to need their money back...
That's for sure. Heck they might be paddling around your house looking to get on the roof! Charge them a ton for a perch above the water.

dang the picture doesnt show up.....

there
:lau bucket seats on a horse drawn wagon. Sorry, it just looks wrong somehow.

Something just took half of my flock!
What carnage!! I'm so sorry it happened.

The entry point
Looks like a canine. They can rip through chicken wire. Coons only eat the head, neck and crop but don't usually carry off a bird.

Welded wire is the way to go.
1/2" hardware cloth for the coop, woven wire or knotted wire is stronger than welded for the run though all are much better than chicken wire.

Thats how I drive from the ground hands on lines excess tossed over my shoulder.... when they take off you have two options. Let em go or drop one line and hang on for dear life till they wrap themselves up. In riding its called a one rein stop.... With driving from the ground they wind themselves up in the lines and are pretty much moved to being incapable of moving forward.

Only takes one or two times....

A friend of mine was in Amish Company. Shopping... there was a young kid driving a gang plow in the field. EIGHT horses across... He stopped across from the store hopped off and came over for a cold drink. To a one each horse cocked a hip and dozed. There is something to be said for getting to take a break.

Also Draft horses are different somewhat biologically... Because they have slow twich muscles (for strength) they have a slower response to spook. But they do spook.... and when they do ITS BIG... But they get over it very quickly...
