The Old Folks Home

Yes, it is very heartbreaking. :hugsOur Dingo spent the first 9 years of his life running at full speed. He could cover our 29 acres in what seemed like a blink of an eye. He would trot either alongside or ahead of our tractor and when we got out our dirt bikes, he would run ahead of us, barking his brains out as he tried to herd the 'funny' cows. He'd get overheated, run to the pond, dive in and jump out ready to go again.

It's heartbreaking to see his ability to move slowly ebbing away. He was still walking last year this time, wobbling and having trouble with balance. Now he is well into phase two of the disease, completely paralyzed in his hind quarters and starting to have problems with his appetite and bowel control. We help him as much as we can. He is family and we love him so we have a sling to help him go outside and pamper him as much as we can.

I had a mini schnauzer that progressive retinal atrophy. He adapted and did great....as long as I didn't move the furniture around.
Sorry Micro. Old age and disease creep up on all creatures, some sooner than others. You will miss him when he is gone. Is he your only dog?

I know someone that was denied disability twice. She heard on the radio a disability lawyer that represents you and don't have to pay until if and when you win. It took another yr, found out she had to quit working, she was just working part time off and on that last few yrs lawyer said that she couldn't do that shows she had the ability to work. She ended up getting it and back pay from when she first was denied like $60 some thousand lump sum.
Long story but she didn't deserve it. I know young people on ssi that shouldn't be, and older people that should be but don't.

I also know people that should not be getting it that do get it and people that should be getting it that can't get it. It's messed up!
I did not have any back pay coming to me. But I did need it and got it.
I have about 20 pills I have to take a day and one of those cost's over 100.00 per pill per day. We would never be able to afford that to for me to stay alive.

People can be cruel when they look and your still active I refuse to lay down and die

One example of a seasonal item I love and wish we could get year around (and I went on the ALDI website to request it) is the Emmentaler cheese bites. They are only available in November and December. We buy all we see when in stock and ration them. They never last long.

...I'm only saying this here since none of you live near enough "my" ALDI and to "poach" my supplies ;) If you have an ALDI near you, check them out.

No, we have four. The oldest is Lucy. She is 14 now. Almost 100% deaf. There are some tones she hears but we have taught her hand commands so she knows what we are saying to her. Then Dingo who is 10 and has DM. Youngest are brother and sister, Buck and Spot. We think they are border collie crosses Spot has Jack Russell terrier in her and bubba Buck has hound in him possibly Walker Coon Hound. Somebody said they looked like Springer crosses but the hair is off. They both naturally go into the Border Collie squat and stare and Buck will stare at the chickens for hours without moving. They are 5 years old. Yes, their mom was a party animal.

Heat advisory for today and tomorrow here. 95 today with heat index at 100 right now. We are in for the rest of the day.
