The Old Folks Home

Hi Pepper, Welcome! We have bears too, but luckily they are scared of people. So far they have left our livestock alone. Knock on wood. Our animals include a Papillon, a GSD, 2 siamese cats, 11 turkeys, uncounted chickens, quail and guineas.
Howdy! What is a GSD? We have 4 dogs here. A rat terrier, a jack Russell terrier mix, a long haired chihuahua mix and a husky that just showed up here one day! I want to put some fences up and get some goats! Thanks for the welcome. ;)

Hi @Peppercorngal and welcome to the old folks home! Always glad to have new old and not so old folks join us. We are a pretty friendly bunch that likes to talk about the things that really matter. Music from the 50s-60s and 70s. Black and white tv. Radio when radio was really entertainment, Milk for 45 cents a gallon or less and OH GAS! Remember gas at 19 cents a gallon during gas wars?

Got home about 4 from the Fox Hunt. Never found a transmitter although we got close to one in a park. DH and I and a pair of guys from the club pin pointed the silly thing but couldn't find it. I was crawling down in a shallow ravine and staring down the muzzle of old cannons but no joy! Only sun burn and dehydration. Still it was fun driving around Kirksville with a directional antenna hanging out the window and getting strange stares from people when we were standing in the middle of a parking lot waving the antennas around.

Off to make dinner. Spaghetti sounds good tonight. Moving my new mamma hen and her five little juvenile delinquents out to the main coop tomorrow. Finally have a plan in place to build a nursery room. It won't be big but I don't need big. Just feel the need to fill it up, LOL.

Well howdy! The fox hunt sounds fun, but would be better if you had found it huh? I remember going to the Saturday Matinee, having a quarter and after paying for my ticket I still had money for candy! I remember NOT having a TV, I remember gas was scarce and you could only get gas on days assigned to your license plate! The "Summer of Love" is when I got pregnant (no big surprise there, huh?). Yep, been there and done that!
:wee

Yes! I got the yard work in before noon today...Nearly had heat stroke!

I quit when there was so much moisture in my eyes that I could not see.

Yard looks nice though...A neighbor complimented it.

It is 97 currently and tomorrow says 100. 102 on Tuesday
We don't do "yard work"! It's too much work. We live on 20 acres and have cleared what we need for our use right now. Yes, too hot. I give the chickens cold water twice a day. Some are smart and wade in it! I have many large oak trees and I put the sprinkler on in the shade a couple of times a day for 3 minutes. The chickens flock to the cool spots! It's been 99 to 105 everyday here and will be until October. It's just the way it is in the summer. You stay cool!

German Shepherd Dog. We are also planning for goats once we get the fences up. I am getting Nigerian dwarves, must have moon spots.
