The Old Folks Home

he only thing I don't like about the eggs is they are one step away from impossible when it comes to candling.
So true...

Candle those dark eggs a few times and then candle a white one... and it is like WOOOOAAAAA! COOL! :lau

Yeah, it makes you feel like a candling expert.

Well productive morning. Got the chick treated for Coccidia. Gave her a 2 drop bolus and flushed it down with water. Got the other's water treated. Will do the rest of the flock shortly along with Wazine.

My first coccidia outbreak....I am just so proud.....not.

Got the wood stove cleaned out and the inside inspected. Replaced 4 firebricks and got a new door gasket installed. All we have to do is clean out the stovepipe and we are ready for winter. Yesterday it was something like 93 out today it is barely 70 with a brisk west wind. Leaves are falling so yep, no denying fall is here.

On a positive note, little Jefe is no longer crying and her crop is full so hoping her body can handle the parasite die off if that is what is happening.:fl

Vaccines sux no way around it. I need my second pneumovax this year but don't know if they will let me get it with me on Methotrexate. Will have to check next month.

corid works very quickly. Make sure to follow the treatment and resistance treatments

Thanks Ron, yeah, I'm doing the two teaspoons for a week on these guys. No way around it. If the little ones have it the big ones do they are all on the same ground/coop.

I went out and dumped their outside waterer. They gave me a whaaaaaaaat? look and I told them to haul their little feathered butts inside and drink there!

Plus, Just ordered safeguard to do as soon as they are done with the corid.

The only thing I don't like about the eggs is they are one step away from impossible when it comes to candling. I usually wind up in a closet with the door closed in hopes of getting just a glimmer of development at 10 days.

You then have to do the next lower dosage treatment for a week. Also, since one died you will need to watch them for symptoms until they are about 16 weeks old.

One of my Michigan thread friends had 30 chicks and turkey poults die on him about a week ago - they were in a brooder, in a new coop, previously used light bulb, no mess or appearance of a struggle, no wounds, and he had seen them 30 minutes before looking perfectly normal. Still trying to figure that one out :(
