I slept so much yesterday i was dehydrated this morning. Drinking lots. I went to feed the guineas in the hoop coop and there was a guinea without a head! Right in the corner. I guess it was sleeping on the corner, the coon pulled the tarp aside and grabbed its head. I put hardware cloth along the bottom foot, but i must have not secured the end well.
Any way, later in the day i was collecting quail eggs and the male flew out. I didn't see my net handy so i started following him. He ended up running into the hoop coop and hid in the same corner where the guinea died! What are the odds?

Most of them sleep up on the perches, and i fixed the hardware cloth in the corner so hopefully no repeat. May have to start night patrols with the shot gun.

Not sure what happened went out to clean the Legbar only one I had was slumped over
no sign of trauma but rig had not set in she had been a shadow the last couple days.. She was on the table they roost on it is built from pallets there are two in silky and the main ..
has me puzzled not enough for a necropsy I had decided to sell her

Sorry it happened. I've had really terrible luck with leghorns, but i keep trying.

Little puzzled but she was bought with two EE at a local feed store to keep a Marans lone hatch company not sure why I had not sold her yet

I always have good luck with marshmallows and a little can of water. They can't resist washing the marshmallows in water for some reason. Must be a raccoon thing. I've heard people suggest using a can of cat food just with a few holes punctured in the lid with a can opener. They say the raccoon will pick up the can and shake it and trip the trap every time.

Thanks, Penny. I'm glad I didn't do myself any permanent damage also. I was very lucky that the pine needle missed my cornea completely. DH was concerned that with my new diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis I am more prone to getting infections in my eyes.

Yes, raccoons love to wash their food. I put a couple of loose marshmallows in the cage, and three strung on a wire connected to the trip lever. When it pulls on the stale marshmallows, it should trip the trap. I could put a tin of water in there too. I already did a can of cat food, but i opened it. Hopefully i catch the beast tonight.
