The Old Folks Home

Al, if there are any local trade schools, check if they have a machinist course. If so, ask the instructor for help. They will have the stock, and tools to do the job, and should only charge to replace the stock they use.
Tiny town, so no trade schools... ... but our neighbor does quality welding. I will have time next week to see if he can figure out a way to fix it.

some good rope would do... for a hinge punch a hole through the door....and fasten it on the inside
I am worried about how much solid metal I have....

But I will go next door and ask the neighbor. He is behind in rent anyway.... could maybe do the welding job in trade.

Spouse was cooking and pulled out a bowl to mix something up... the bowl had ice in it.

:lau

So, tomorrow we must clean out then start up the wood stove.
Or leave the cabinet doors open so some of the 35° heat in the rest of the kitchen can get in. And WHY was there water in the bowl that could freeze?

I think that makes you sturdier than most here other than @Alaskan. We have floor heat set to 68° in the bathroom. Keep the door closed of course. Gets mighty toasty in there when the furnace comes on in the morning. 75° in the bathroom while the rest of that part of the house works its way up to 68°.

Bruce sounds like what happens with the furnace I have. Bathrooms end up very warm - they have the largest heat registers. The bedrooms never get above 70. In summer with the ac on they get up to 84F and up.... then the basement & first floor is freezing.

I often have 3 changes of clothes in a day depending on which room or level I need to work in.

Pellet stove has been going here at least a month.

Last night a small piece of pellet got stuck in the auger and the stove has been screaming like a possessed banshee for hours. Going to have to let the bag run out before we can get in there and scrape. It's been really pleasant.

I'm going to have some work done in the house and install some shelving and a gravity feed gas fireplace in my living room. That way the living room can be warmer, and the bedrooms can stay cooler, and I will have a heat source if the power goes out.
