The Old Folks Home

Her daughter will throw the gifts out, if she thinks they didn't come from the high end stores, or she won't let her see the grandkids for awhile to "punish" her for not shopping high end for them.
:sick

I asked the town post office if they could put a Christmas card in my grandmas box. Knew I wouldn't run into her and the box was right there in the post office so no sense in mailing it. He did, but made me pay for a stamp, lol.
As he should. He also canceled it.

My deliveryman never complains when I put a card and 20$ in my mailbox for him each year (except the year he was on vacation and the backup rural carrier took it) and I don't have to pay for a stamp :gig
I think leaving something in the box for the carrier is OK because it is "outgoing". The illegal part is someone besides you or a postal employee putting something in the box. A Fed EX (maybe UPS??) carrier got in trouble for putting something in a mailbox. The carrier opened the box and there it was. Post Master called the delivery service, which ever one it was.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but taking cash or something that can be converted to cash is strictly forbidden. The value of any gift "incident" can not exceed $20. Find out if there is somewhere they frequent that has gift cards.

I do not think there is a specific limit to how many times a year you can give a gift to your favorite postal employee(s). Thus, if you are getting really great service, above and beyond what one might expect, you can thank them multiple times a year. I don't know if that happens often thought.

You could also take it down to the PO and ask that it be given to your regular carrier. I've done that a few times.

I used to have problems with USPS not delivering my larger packages and instead leaving a note for me to go pick it up at the local office. That simply does not work for my schedule, because it closes right after I get off work, and I can't get there.

20$ a year and I get amazing service.
That can be a rough one. USUALLY they will bring it to the door and leave it unless there is a signature required (then they leave the notice). If they aren't, unless they get cash gifts for Christmas, ... not good.

Of course, given your driveway, I can see where they wouldn't try to deliver to the door in winter conditions.

I take a large plate or three full of cookies are town is small enough we all go the post office like 4 gals there so cookies are a hit ... thought about getting the my pillow thing was looking at it on Amazon BF ordered a memory foam seat thing a book and the pillow for me liked it so far but one night will not tell... We had to go into walmart today dog food and I ordered a med I picked up needed 1/2 & 1/2 also got out fast

This is part of the problem, at least during winter. Most of the time the drivers will attempt to make it up, and then lob the package into the snowbank about where they get stuck. You can kinda gauge how bad my driveway is by how far the package is up it.

But in all seriousness, my local PO has a major problem with leaving packages outside. Their default is to leave a note for you to come pick it up. I've had many arguments with them, but they think my stuff is going to get stolen. I live in rural Maine, at the almost-end of a dead end dirt road. If I'm not safe, no one is.

We did replace our mailbox a few years back with the biggest mailbox we could get. Most packages fit nicely inside it, so he has to go up Doom Driveway less frequently.

The UPS driver does gobble at the tom, though. Tom gobbles right back. I don't think he knows I'm home when he does it (I park in the garage).

It's official folks! We got us a blizzard warning!
Including the cities of Kirksville, Brookfield, Marceline, Macon,
and La Plata
224 PM CST Sat Nov 24 2018

...BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM SUNDAY TO MIDNIGHT CST
SUNDAY NIGHT...

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations
of 3 to 8 inches expected. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.

* WHERE...Adair, Linn MO and Macon Counties.

* WHEN...From 6 AM Sunday to midnight CST Sunday night.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel could be very difficult. Areas of
blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded, stay with your vehicle.

I went to the store, feed store was closed. Hit the local Yoder Amish feed store. Owner is a great guy in his mid 70s, doesn't hold it against you that you aren't Amish and loves to chew the fat with anyone who stops by. His wife runs a bakery and is my age. Free coffee and donuts Saturday mornings. People flock there. All in all nice folks. Bought two bags of feed from there, gassed up the van and headed home. Been helping DH with an antenna project for our radios and just got inside in time to do damage control.

Ready for the weather. Put straw in the small coop, I'll feed and water later.

@superchemicalgirl. I love the quilting pattern on that quilt. Simply beautiful. You are inspiring me!
That should stop the logging!

The joys of living on a dead end road!

I grew up on one of those. So much fun!

Quiet day here. Dog snoring away on the couch, we're waiting for the snow/ice tomorrow and BF is at work all weekend.

So... I loaded a quilt onto the frame and have been happily stitching away for a few hours. My mind is now at ease!

Just gorgeous! I spent over $100. at Joann Fabric the other day. Planning a wedding quilt. I need to figure out a design. She loves pink, so there will be a lot of that in there.

I was thinking of building a big box near the driveway with a hasp and a padlock. Then they could put it in there and snap the lock shut. Since we now have a circular driveway, no one seems to mind driving down to drop stuff off. But, we have not had a really big snow storm since we moved here.

It was beautiful outside today. Upper 50s, sunny. SO hard to believe what they are calling for is going to develop but I've seen it happen before and from what they are saying our area is right in the line for a direct hit.

Funny, nobody is complaining. Everyone I talked to today said it's time for it to snow. It's been like three years since we have had an appreciable snowfall here. Otherwise just dustings or 3 inches at the most. I had DH pull a tick off the back of my arm yesterday. We need some cold snowy weather to kill those mother lovers.

As for post awfuls the ladies that run the PO in the little town nearest to us are awesome! They email or call us if they have a question or a problem with any of our mail. One day they called us to ask for the tracking number because the one on a package had been smudged beyond reading. Just super service. Our regular delivery guy needs to retire. He has the attitude of a 17 year old boy and is about as anal retentive of a person as you ever want to meet. We've tried everything to get on his good side. Cookies and fudge at Christmas, monetary tips, sweet talk, praise. About all you can say about him is that he does his job but he does it with all the charm of a stalag commandant. I've even offered him free eggs but he won't take them....unless I leave them down at the main office, then he will take a dozen :he.

Just a tough nut to crack. The sub is a super nice lady. I keep asking her if the regular has quit and or retired and she just smiles understandingly and tells me no.

SCG this could have been made just for you
