Even the coopsters have holiday blessings.... Polenta stuffed melon!

Not sure how I feel about that :eek:
I love melons, love polenta, doesn't sound like a good combination though...

:lau:gig:lau guess I'm slow as I comment, lol, for the birds :lol:.
I was actually thinking this morning when I fed them, I wished I had something to give the birds special for Christmas, always have for the dogs.
They did end up with the skins from a baked Hopi pale grey squash, gobbled them up. We liked the squash also, best 'different' squash we've had and we've tried a few, going to try a couple more next yr. Hopi pale grey is easy to open up, about like a pumpkin, tasty as a butternut or pie pumpkin, super good. Best open pollinated squash so far.

Polenta, ground some of the indian corn we grew, just the flint corn so far, mmmm no comparison, nutty yummy.
Kids like it plain, with butter and syrup..
Me and DW, plain, .... with butter garlic and sausage and a couple over easy eggs on top :drool
Still have to try the flour corn, the painted mountain stuff, haven't tried it yet.

Awesome article on heritage corn;

Sounds so good!

The polenta was poured into a loaf pan, cooled into a solid brick, and then sliced, fried, and then topped with carmelized red onions and bleu cheese crumbles as hors d'oeuvres for a tapas party I went to. The first batch I sliced too thin, so the chickens got to enjoy my mistake. (Waste not!) No, we do not eat melon & polenta dishes here, but the chickens are less discriminating and the combo was well-received.

We eat polenta. We eat grits. Thought about growing some native blue corn for atole (yet another iteration of ground corn), but haven't done so yet. I should get a grain grinder -- actually, I may have one stashed somewhere, hmmm -- as homemade tortillas are the bomb, but it's just so much easier to buy masa flour.
