The Old Folks Home

Freezing drizzle over a 'cat print' snow overnight. My run nets are coated and sagging again and the hawks have started their early territory battles so they are everywhere right now. Glad the chooks aren't thrilled with going out at the moment.

They are calling for 4-8 inches of snow on Tuesday night.

Oh.......joy.:hit

I'm to the point in time where mentally I REALLY need spring right now!

Hugs. We have 39° and hail with rain. Go look at some seed or chick catalogues!

Hi CAP!:frow Good advice.

I have two Burpee's catalogs that I have a 'want list' made out. Planning to plant two rows of onions and a row of potatoes (maybe 2 rows) and everything else goes in containers. Going to try pole beans in containers this year and maybe squash. Last year I planted two tomato plants by the chicken runs and they loved it, especially the grape tomatoes. They were having jumping contests trying to snare some from branches that had spread into the run. Burpee's also has a variety of 'deck' sweet corn that I'm going to try. They say you have to hand pollinate it but other than that it does well in containers.

As for chicks, yep. Got the Murray McM catalogue close at hand and counting the days until the Fayoumi chicks arrive the first week in April! I think Orscheln's has chick days underway but haven't ventured out there for ages. Maybe next week when I see the Rheumy PA I'll be able to peek in.

Hey Micro, sold a pair of chickens today and 8 quail. Guy thought the quail were going to hatch their own eggs. Do your homework fellow. People drive me nuts but glad to cut back and get money. Selling a rabbit to a repeat customer tomorrow.

Sorry diid not know quail won't hatch their own either how do they do it in the wild?
Some quail will, but i bet if you were buying Coturnix you would read up on them. They have been domesticated so long they have lost the broody urge. Hopefully my California Valley quail will brood their own. Much easier. Bobwhites brood their own, but i don't have any of them.
