The Old Folks Home

My mom used to say that 'we are what we eat'. I know what she meant by that statement now. Did anybody catch the news story last week about Roundup residue being found IN fruits and veggies?

They listed the top twelve that were highest and the 12 that were loest in contamination. I'm trying to get away from using Roundup as much as possible but unfortunately, it's pretty much a staple on a farm as we were advised to spray it on scrub trees when we cut them down

One thing about the gout diet is that you do lose extra pounds while on it as it relies on vegetables a lot. Of course you feel like a cow out grazing in the pasture but hey, whatever it takes.

OUCH @ronott1. Yes, broken teeth trump gouty arthritis in a knee. I can empathize tho. Did a header over my bike handlebars while on a ride with DH. Front wheel of the bike slid into a crevice and down I went. Broke my front tooth in half horizontally. They did a build up on it to repair it but I probably see a crown in my future.

Regarding the cherries, yes, I do believe that they do help. I usually keep a bag of frozen 'pie cherries' in the freezer and pull out a cup full at a time to munch on. Forgot to get them yesterday. I think I may try the concentrated cherry juice next though. More of it and easier to store.

@CapricornFarm, :hugs you are harder on your body than I am on mine. Hope your knee is better this morning.

Awhile back I heard they've found roundup in almost all breakfast cereal, and oatmeal. Didn't make sense cause oats are not gmo. Roundup is mainly used on gmo crops to kill weeds, doesn't harm crop.
They said they found out the big oat farms were using it at the end of the season. Oats are harvested dry so rather than wait for them to all naturally be ready for harvest they spray the fields with roundup to kill it all, dry down quick all together and ready for harvest :hmm

Good luck!
Thanks! I have the old crown in a plastic mold to make a temporary fake tooth until I go in for the prep work. It feels awkward but does look a lot better! I go back for a 2 hour appointment on Thursday

cycling accidents can be bad for teeth!

Once I was riding a bike, applied the brakes and the front one fell off and caught in the front tire spoke! Instant head over crash!

No broken teeth but lot of road rash and bruises.

Morning all Left knee here :lau checking on sprouts in the garden still pretty cool
out mid 60's rained a bit last couple days so arthritis takes a hit :he

Penny, some years ago when my right wrist was trashed because it took a direct kick by a 6 month old colt, the surgeons said , yah, you will have arthritis- 95% chance. ( Two surgeries to fix: second doc fixed work of first doc.) Well, it's been 10+ years and I DONT have arthritis issues. Usually I forget that I had lost use of that hand for some 6 months. When I eat bread and pasta, it's the first joint to say " HEY, stop eating that stuff. It makes me hurt!". I learned to eat low carb because my wrist rewarded my efforts.

Let me know if you want more info.

Ironically, on the Roundup label it says it isn't very effective for "dry down," and suggests that another product be used.:idunno

Praying multi quote worked...

Yes, in the old world of Lithuanian pre WWI, a local woman who was the only "doctor" also said milk is not for the adults. She used fresh raw milk to treat gangrene successfully. Raw milk has natural antibiotic properties.

Today's commercial milk contains far more antibiotic residue than we are told; and the proteins are from Frisians ( the big black and white girls) and not the older breeds like a Jersey. Milk is a long story so I will stop here. We eat yogurt and cheese, not much liquid milk anymore.

I cannot eat a lot of high carb veg/grains-- I raise my own meats, or some of it. IMO the vegetarians vs the meat -eaters is a misguided argument and misses the whole point: our foods are VERY contaminated with MORE than ROund up, most of the high production varieites are not the same genetics of 100 years ago ( some dilligent farmers are bringing back the very old wheat and grain varieites), GMO scares me, etc.

Fasting was a regular occurrence in the history of humans; most recently it was included as religious events. Dr Fung MD is bring back the how to and showing the real benefits. Fasting during some cancer treatments is showing far better results. Some people are having great results using just food and fasting as a treatment method: Dr Josh Axe, CO, tells about when breast cancer metastasized into his mom's lungs and how he changed her diet to win the battle WITH ONLY A DIET CHANGE.

Too few have really looked at the replacement of real fats like tallow and lard with grain oils made using solvents that leave a residue in the oil and then are packaged in plastic bottles. When we ate tallow, lard and butter we didnt have the health issues we have today. ANd the list is VERY long.

Dr Bikman studies extreme athletes that depend on fats as their energy source. What we eat matters: the body changes based on eating carbs for energy or fats for energy. The body can make glucose from several sources, not just carbs. ANd the body AND BRAIN functions better on ketones.

Coconut oil bypasses the glucose -using system of the Alzheimer challenged brain: see Dr May MD account of her husband's last 5 years living with Alzheimer. Instead of putting on his coat backwards with buttons at his back, he could again put it on correctly when Dr May included coconut oil in his diet daily. However, progression of the disease was not stopped.

We are what we eat-- actually, our body responds to what we eat.

TWO of the best books I have read and recommend: Wheat Belly and The Dental Diet. The dentist points out that we dont eat real food anymore and are missing VIt K2, and insufficient in magnesium, potassium, and phosphorus and TOO MUCH calcium. I changed to brushing with baking soda and my gums dont bleed anymore. ( Vitamin K2 is the staff Sargent that tells the calcium to head to the teeth and bones asap and get out of the arteries and other tissues; with too much calcium the body starts putting it everywhere, even if it doesnt belong there.)

ANyway, this is what I have been looking into instead of visiting here like I used to. Anyway, Back to looking regular programming.....

I find nothing to like about Roundup and refuse to use it for anything.
