They are similar in appearance to a black eye, but they eye is not black, and they're smaller. The taste is very different too. As I said, they're small, so they're a lot of work when it comes time to shell them. Because of the flavor, they're sooooo worth it.

@Cynthia12. Your granddaughter is an absolute angel. I like the saying that babies are Gods opinion that the world should go on. I hope that life is kind to her and that she lives long and prospers.

@perchie.girl! Sounds like you are well on the road to recovery. It's always hard handling drastic life changes that your health dictates that you adhere to. I'm still grappling with having to strictly adhere to my gout diet, especially without the Allopurinol on board to help. I'm learning how to 'cheat' a bit though, especially since right now I'm struggling with NOT losing anymore weight. Lately I've been craving sour cream and cheddar potato chips. So I grabbed a small bag and indulged. They were sooooooooooooo good and so far no gout attacks so hopefully I can work a serving or two a week into my regular low meat fare without triggering a flare. Small servings of low fat ice cream seem to be tolerated also, but ahhhh for the good old days where I could eat what I wanted, as much as I wanted and not gain weight or suffer painful gout attacks for my indulgences.

Remember the old cartoon where the dog would get a treat and he would do a happy dance, hugging himself and finally falling over in a bliss induced coma? Yeah, I can empathize......
