The Old Folks Home

You do have to wonder. My car went in for its 5,000 mile service. Basically oil and filter change, tire rotation. Took over an hour from my 2:15 scheduled time. Guess that is one reason I do it myself once a car is out of warranty. I can do it just as fast and I don't have take the time to drive to the dealer. I also don't charge myself $95/hour.

That reminds me, I should check the tire pressures tomorrow. Never know if they do it or not.

We will also for now maybe forever BF is 73 this year so may keep using the dealer 100 included tire tire rotation

This is what I've been seeing the past few mornings from my patio. Yes, there are 4 Sandhill Cranes, but it's hard to see all 4 of them. One of the younger ones is the one I helped rescue awhile back. My how it's grown.

We see these ducks sometimes. I'm not sure what kind they are, but they sure are pretty. It doesn't show good in the pic, but their bill is a bright orange, and so are their feet.

We positively LOVE lizards and encourage them here because they're good guys. I've counted at least five kinds in the yard and on the walls. But, sadly, we have roadrunners not-so-subtly lurking that know we're a lizard haven. Last year those birds decimated our toad population. The lizards have a bit more of a chance as they're faster, but there's still quite a tailless few.

getaclue -- Lovely birds! Cranes and herons are so elegant. Did it rain recently in the photo and they're digging for worms?

deb -- Careful! Rapid weight loss also results in a loss of balance due to the center of gravity shifting. (Found that out in my 40's when I lost a lot of weight and then kept falling down a lot. Being an adult with scraped knees is kind of humiliating.) Go slow and steady, and remember that snacking will be your friend for maintaining the blood sugar levels until your body sorts itself out. You got this!

We're at last getting some rain here. Great when Mother Nature takes over watering duties and makes it easier to pull weeds (both in temps and soil softness.) The mugginess reminds me of the deep South and kind of hampers too much labor.

Saw this for DD....

Haven't seen LeRoy for two days. We are hoping he found his way back outside after being chased into the shop by yours truly. The last time I saw him, he was just inside the hobby room and darted under the small space under the door and into the shop. I hope he didn't croak and can't imagine he did with the surplus bugs that we seem to have this year of all shapes and sizes.

Last two days have been interesting. All 4 eggs under my broodies hatched and are doing well. Had one die in the shell and was pulled before the hatch and another one was well, who knows. I cracked it for an eggtopsy and it was just foul so I didn't proceed with it but it had been gone for a long time. I was lucky it didn't explode kind of foul.

Heading out now to release the birds and do some clean up before the heat builds for the day. Funny how hot the sun can get this time of the year without the humidity being high.

Anyone out there with arthritis pain ever tried Voltaren ointment jell on your joints with good results? I picked up my first tube of it yesterday. 41 dollars WITH medicare....ouch! Should be able to rub some of it on that price to make it hurt less, lol!

Any plans for the weekend?

Yes , going to a swap tomorrow. If I can get busy and unload the truck and do a million other things.

I hope you are feeling better!

That sounds like a lot of work

I have good spells and not so good spells. And I just do a bit then come back in. So far I got breakfast and had a nap....:gig
At least you are moving!

That sounds suspiciously like Herkimers effect to me, Cap. I'd get that and mentally knew it was time to hit the lemon water and Epsom salt hot tub soaks.

The good news is that Herksing as they refer to in on the Lyme Associations forum, is a sign that the antibiotics are working and you are getting bacteria die off that is building up in your bloodstream and making you feel crappy.

No big plans for the weekend here. We have been working on small projects here as we feel like it. I just came in from raking and cleaning out the small coop. Only two roosters in it now. I'm seriously considering tossing them back in the main flock and shutting down that coop till spring breeding season rolls around again. The roosters aren't acting as aggressive towards the hens any more, surprising since I only have about 6 or 8 that aren't brooding right now.

I have two broody bantams left and 'Stupid' who will act broody until I give her a couple of eggs to sit on then she gives up after three days is up to her old tricks. Last night I went into the coop to find her sitting on a nest. Picked her up and realized she was sitting on the bantam who was diligently sitting on her own eggs.

At times I doubt whatever sanity God has graced them with.....
