I used to cut my own hair because I couldn't afford to pay a hairdresser and tip them. Besides I used to trim dogs and thought "how hard could it be." Well I really goofed up and one side accidentally(?) got shaved to the skin. Couldn't figure any way to make it look better, so did the same to the other side.
Was standing behind another woman waiting to be served in a store. She turned around and told me to move farther away from her. I'm guessing she thought I had cooties. At that moment I wished I had and got them all over her. Boy I was ticked off.
A man I knew from high school said he almost died when he saw my hair - he thought I must have been dying of some disease. I told him just a bad haircut.
It was funny I was in a grocery store and a little boy came over to me and said "Are you a girl or a boy?" I have a feeling his mother put him up to it. I said "I'm a girl with very short hair." He didn't look convinced and neither did his mother.
My sister had a fit and said "people are going to think you are a "you know what?" I said
"you mean all it takes is a short haircut?" Then I pointed out that my sister's professionally cut hair was just as short as mine but, she paid plenty to look that way.
I had my hair very short for several years. I liked the fact that after I got out of the shower it dried very fast on it's own. I used to keep it longer in summer and in fall cut it very short because winter coat hoods & hats made it look horrible.
The last year or two decided to let it grow. It's below my shoulders now and I love it except when I zip up the winter coat & hood- some hair gets caught in the zipper. OUCH!! Can't braid it because I have very fine straight hair, it doesn't hold a set and if I try to braid it, it just falls out straight again. I figure you have to pick your battles wisely. I'm NOT tired of long hair yet, so I let it be.
