The Old Folks Home

Today I shoveled the deck outside the coop and invited everybody out. They have been out in the snow before, but not for a few days (it’s been very cold, zero and below, and windy). They gathered in front of the coop, tasting the chopped hay I put out there, standing on one foot and looking at the white deck with suspicion.

Does one ever tire of watching goofy chickens? They crack me up daily.
I did not make it out to clean yesterday and it is raining too much today

Chickens will be fine LOL!

Mid to western MA @trumpeting_angel? We'll be going ALL the way to Shelburne, 30 miles south. Just for Christmas Day. DD2 most likely has to work at least a half day at Smuggs.

Driving past Shelburne and all the way down to the Poughkeepsie area myself. Your turn to stand by the highway and wave when I go
by!

No plans here. No close family and too many animals not to mention no desire to be on the roads.

Here's the kicker....expected temp on Christmas Day here, 61 degrees! So obviously, no white Christmas here.

Two funny things here today. I have a couple of birds that are what I call 'roost setters'. They seldom get off the roost bars for anything for some reason....I've tried physically pushing them outside, they run back inside and back to their roosts. I finally gave up and MacGyvered a container up on one of the roost bars with bungee cords that I put water in for them. Tonight I filled the container half way as my jug was empty, bent over to put the jug down and a hen flew over to the rim of the container and tipped the whole thing on my head. Glad the water was clean is all I can say.

Then tonight, Varn took possession of a feed bag. Nothing he hasn't done before but what he did that he hasn't done before is crawl inside....and forget how to get out. We were laughing so hard tears were rolling down our cheeks as he bounced around the hobby room 'bagged' and not able to find his way out. He finally figured it out and Ben came to his rescue, grabbing the bag and making off with it. Will he try it again...oh, yeah, Varn is Varn after all.

:lau we need video!

Yeah, I really need to start carrying a camera that I can turn on fast and catch this stuff when it happens..that is catch the cattle dogs. Not too thrilled to catch a container of water being dumped on my head by the chickens tho, LOL.

All done baking here with the exception of pumpkin pie which I will bake tomorrow. I had ordered two cans of pumpkin filling from Amazon Prime that was set to be delivered today. I was in town yesterday picking up a few odds and ends at the grocery and saw canned pumpkin at a reasonable price and thought what the heck and picked up a few cans. Glad I did. Had a message from Amazon Prime that they couldn't fulfill my order and it wasn't coming today. Shame, the filling was 50 cents cheaper than it was at the store. Still, glad I picked up the pumpkin yesterday. The roads were horribly sloppy until I got to the black top. Nothing like clay and horse poop turned to muck when it comes to making driving interesting....not.

So is everybody ready for Christmas?...Hanukkah?...which I think today is the first day of Hanukkah so to all who celebrate, Shalom and Happy Hanukkah.

Um, if you are going through Shelburne to get to Poughkeepsie you are taking the LONG road! Sure you don't mean Sherburne which was renamed to Killington a few years ago, presumably due to the potential confusion but more likely linking to the Killington ski area name.

:gig:lau
Oh, I'm sorry I'm not laughing at you.
OK, yes I am!

Might be worth the 50 cents and less packaging going to the dump/recycling to help the store stay in business??

I went out and spent my gift card from TSC on decor that was 30% off. :wee
And I went to a place called Mad Biddies, an antique store. Had a great time looking at everything twice. Bought a clock for my friend, and a goat statue for myself.:yesss:
