The Old Folks Home

I only have one hen that has feather loss on her back and she is an EE hen that was given to me. The boys LOVE her just a little too much but I'm starting to wonder if she doesn't have some secondary condition as every time she shakes out her feathers a few flutter to the floor. I need to make her a saddle and possibly look for feather shaft mites. I had a rooster that had them. Could never see them but when I treated him with Ivermectin his feathers started to grow in again. So I figure it might be worth a try with Cleo.

I always have found it interesting that the roosters will have one hen that they single out that way.
I have a hutch with too many male quail in it for the hens...they are a bit bald!

I go to the doctor on Wed. Along with the other tests she runs, I want her to test my vitamin levels, especially D. Since the bout of flu, and dealing with shingles, I have been constantly tired. Real tired. Sleeping way more than normal. Day before yesterday, I increased my D some. It helped. Yesterday, I increased it quite a bit. It did me a lot of good. While I don't want to overdo it on D, once before I was so low, I had to take prescription strength (50,000 iu) of D for several months. I may need to do that again.

You can go fairly high on vitamin D!

It will be interesting to see what you level is not

Did I miss the wedding or just forgot it happened?

That is very sad.

Your DH singled you out didn't he? ;)

Possibly forgot? Or maybe I never mentioned it here? I think I have elsewhere but maybe forgot here so it’s possible you didn’t miss anything.

Wedding was the end of September.

And yeah I know. :( I was hoping to keep all the pullets but I ended up with basically all boys. :hit

I think I have one, maybe two, girls out of 9 chicks. :hit

Hopefully one of the tests will be a CBC. :)

Hi everyone!

Hey, JD, can I get a poster size copy of those eggs so I can hang it up in my coop to shame my hens? I only got 3 eggs today also.

When the cold and snow rolled in my girls went on strike. Clamped those oviducts down tighter than a safe door. Told me they weren't going to start laying until spring or whenever the young cockerels got moved, one of the two!

Can't say I blame them on either count. It's just nasty out plus the young cockerels are well..okay, they are nasty too. I did manage to get out and start pulling my netting out of the 4-5 inches of snow over it. Have to wait till the day time temp hits its high before I can coax it out from under without ripping it.

Hopefully the temp will reach the 34 degrees that they are predicting and I can get it pulled out and back up. Maybe string up some paracord to reinforce it when the next ice storm hits. Chickens won't come out till the snow is melted at least 50%. They don't mind mud to their ankles but lordie lordie, and God forbid that they be forced to walk in that evil white freezing snow stuff!
I have missed you.

How have you been?
Micro ,I 'll see what I can do toward a poster. Hi Alaskan! Be working....albeit for a time while under the weather. Allergies triggered respiratory problems that lasted for about two months.
I'm just happy to be here with you folks.
