The Old Folks Home

So now when you come to the States, you can come to Vermont and go to the Shelburne Museum. Lots of the things she collected are there. It's a full day if you go see everything. Lots of buildings.

And of COURSE you will visit me, the museum is about 30 miles south of me.

And I SHALL when I get to Vermont! We have something similar about 40 miles away, https://museum.wales/stfagans/
so if you ever get to this part of the world, you must come here, and we could compare local craft/farming/building traditions. The TV show reminds me that St Fagans have reconstructed a short terrace street from one of the Welsh valleys, and each house and garden is done out in a different decade. In the WWII one the garden is entirely given over to food production, and the shed is a pigsty!

Ah, good old Orangeburg pipe, it was originally used as conduit. It stopped being used in the 70's. There is some of that between my house and the septic tank. Not sure how much but a 3-4' section right at the tank was replaced with PVC a couple of years ago because it broke. Had to dig through a couple of inches of frozen ground in December. I would have to pull 2 decks down to dig out the pipe.
It is never fun to do stuff like that in bad weather! Here it is doing work like that in the Summer. One year for the fourth of July I dug a pit for a pitted pig in on a day when it was 103F with clouda!

My son took a picture of me up there. Up till now I have been very camera shy thats a 5x shirt that I wore when I was almost 400 lbs. It could be a skirt dress now

Good job on the weight loss!

The picture is a broken link for me

My poor husband. If it isn't one thing it's another. Dr. had him come in for his yearly physical. We didn't need to be told that he's declining. It's sure hard to carry on a conversation with him, but I can figure it out most of the time. While there at the docs I reminded him that his last Dr was watching his scrotum. ..that sounded funny...😁. Anyway, he did have the blood test last year..that's nice they check that way now days. Blood test again. It's doubled in size. 😔. Going in for an ultra sound this morning. If, he needs it removed, I need to ask if a block can be done instead of him going under anesthesia. I've learned that can bring a dramatic decline on in Alzheimer patients. Now, I haven't let my my mind go to the big C word too seriously. Of course it's come to mind, but where it's been enlarged for years, I'm thinking it's just that, and will probably need to be removed. I'm going to post this in a few places, because I know a lot of folks will offer up a prayer or two for us. I sure love you guys. 💜.

So sorry to hear this Cynthia. It never rains but it pours. Definitely anesthesia, pain medicines, antibiotics, infections the list goes on and on of what can cause a worsening of dementia and Alzheimer's disease sufferers symptoms. They gave my dad a tylenol 3 after having eye surgery and he was so far out in left field that it wasn't even funny. I went into his room and he asked me if I wasn't going to talk to my brother who was sitting by the bed.....he wasn't...nope, no brother there. I went out and told them to get an order for Tramadol and only give him half a tablet along with some acetaminophen as that was about all he could tolerate.

Of course lifting him up with prayer!

I am in that busy time of the year. Ordered garden seed today. Yes, I'm trying container gardening this year. wish me luck @CapricornFarm and others who have delved into the fine art of gardening for all of us with challenged joints.

I have been working on a brick walkway that is going to our deck. There is a terrace project also involved which is going to be a mini garden for me to plant some tomato plants so they will be closer to the house for me. I discovered I was short 80 bricks and have been searching high and low for used pavers to use. I was to the point where I was going to buy a brick mold from Amazon and pour my own when last evening our neighbor rolled in pulling a huge trailer and asked me if I needed some brick. He was doing some skid steer work for some guy who was clearing property and there was a huge pile of bricks that he wanted to get rid of and could I use some of them? He and the kids proceeded to unload about 150 bricks for me. They aren't pavers, but I'll make them work.

I hope everyone is being careful with this new flu around, we older people seem to have bulls eyes on our backs. No sense taking chances. I'm staying away from people as much as possible, and yes, wearing a mask when I have to go out and about. I also carry hand sanitizer with me and use it frequently. One thing they don't tell you is if you use hand sanitizer, we were told by the local health dept. to wash your hands after every 5 uses, then start over with hand sanitizer.

I don't want to hear that any chicken folk are being tallied in that daily CDC report that is coming out.

Neither do I

You will be very busy!

I had no idea it was used up until the 1970s!! Wow!
Apparently it has a lifespan of 50 years (maybe more) since there is a section of unknown length still in service here. Can't be any longer than maybe 30' given the distance to the house. Yeah the concept of a tarred cardboard tube to carry waste water, and the stuff in it, seems odd. Lots cheaper than iron or lead pipe back then of course and they didn't have the option of PVC until the 50's.

That is very cool!!!! I've got the page up for later perusal. I went to an open air museum somewhere near London 26 years ago. That is the only time I've been to the British Isles (unless you want to count the British Virgin Islands, I've been there twice, even longer ago).

One year for the fourth of July I dug a pit for a pitted pig in on a day when it was 103F with clouds!
And you don't even have a tractor to dig with!

Gee Micro, I wouldn't have guess you were that many bricks shy of a load, you've always seems so well put together (mentally anyway) ;)

and yes, wearing a mask when I have to go out and about.
Be aware that wearing a mask will not keep you from getting the virus, they don't block particles anywhere near that small. They can help you not spread the virus if you have it since they will block your bodily fluids when you cough or sneeze .
