The Old Folks Home

So sorry to hear this Cynthia. It never rains but it pours. Definitely anesthesia, pain medicines, antibiotics, infections the list goes on and on of what can cause a worsening of dementia and Alzheimer's disease sufferers symptoms. They gave my dad a tylenol 3 after having eye surgery and he was so far out in left field that it wasn't even funny. I went into his room and he asked me if I wasn't going to talk to my brother who was sitting by the bed.....he wasn't...nope, no brother there. I went out and told them to get an order for Tramadol and only give him half a tablet along with some acetaminophen as that was about all he could tolerate.

Of course lifting him up with prayer!

I am in that busy time of the year. Ordered garden seed today. Yes, I'm trying container gardening this year. wish me luck @CapricornFarm and others who have delved into the fine art of gardening for all of us with challenged joints.

I have been working on a brick walkway that is going to our deck. There is a terrace project also involved which is going to be a mini garden for me to plant some tomato plants so they will be closer to the house for me. I discovered I was short 80 bricks and have been searching high and low for used pavers to use. I was to the point where I was going to buy a brick mold from Amazon and pour my own when last evening our neighbor rolled in pulling a huge trailer and asked me if I needed some brick. He was doing some skid steer work for some guy who was clearing property and there was a huge pile of bricks that he wanted to get rid of and could I use some of them? He and the kids proceeded to unload about 150 bricks for me. They aren't pavers, but I'll make them work.

I hope everyone is being careful with this new flu around, we older people seem to have bulls eyes on our backs. No sense taking chances. I'm staying away from people as much as possible, and yes, wearing a mask when I have to go out and about. I also carry hand sanitizer with me and use it frequently. One thing they don't tell you is if you use hand sanitizer, we were told by the local health dept. to wash your hands after every 5 uses, then start over with hand sanitizer.

I don't want to hear that any chicken folk are being tallied in that daily CDC report that is coming out.
Good luck in your planting, Becky! I have tomatoes and lettuce started so far. Today is unload the truck day and make a chick brooder out of a small storage bin.
I have 16 chicks hatched so far. And last night I set more eggs. For those of you that haven't seen this pic on another thread, I will post it here.

No, @bruceha2000 all of my 'bricks' are still more or less in the same place. A bit chipped and shifted but still holding together!

As for the masks, N95s do the trick. They have little respirator valves in them, some at the side and some in the middle. The ones I have are in the middle. I have like a gazillion standard surgical masks on hand. I'm wondering if you doubled them up it would make any difference.

The funny thing is that DH and I have gas masks. We bought them as a 'just for the heck of it' thing but DH said the other day that if push comes to shove we'd break them out and wear them.

I hope it doesn't come to that.

@perchie.girl! Whowzers my friend! You could get me in that shirt along with you and have room left over. You look great and HAPPY! With every reason to feel that way. I'm so sorry you had the bad turn with your house. We just found out yesterday that the 'vacation cabin' across the road from us and up about a quarter of a mile from where our house sits was broken into two weeks ago. Somebody busted through their heavy front gate, broke in and stole all of his hunting bows. I heard some noise coming from that direction and thought the owner was up from St. Louis but......Everybody is double checking their home security. Sad shape the world is in these days.

@CapricornFarm. The chicks are adorable and is that a baby duck I see in the bunch? From what I hear we have another fox in the neighborhood. It took one of the neighbor's ducks recently. Every time I think I'll let my extra cockerels out to free range, this happens to counter my plans. The little devils give me the peedoodles but not to the point that I want them to feed the local wildlife.

No ducks! They poop too much. I had some in TN. All I have in there are chicks.
