The Old Folks Home

Gas in New Mexico is $1.26/gallon. A friend in Michigan told me she found $.95... Under a dollar! I told sister in CA that if they ever saw those prices, I'd be getting my gas for free. Who knows? It might come true!

Sadly, though, my favorite gas station on the Santo Domingo Pueblo has closed. Don't know if it's because the Navajo nation is on severe (police enforced at access roads) lockdown -- they are suffering disproportionate infection -- or the fact that the Gov ordered all non-essential businesses closed, which would include the smoke shop that was the gas station's mart.

Other than trips to Santa Fe to water the yard (we've taken the place off the market) and curbside pickup of edibles, I'm pretty much confined to our address's borders. DH is a little more brave and ventures to Costco where he also gets his prescriptions filled. Looking forward to the day when I can shop unencumbered with abandon and glee at local groceries.

Diva -- The situation with your son sounds like a classic frustration/aggression syndrome. You know, where a person is upset at the office and goes home and yells at the dog/wife/kids scenario. Don the teflon and don't take it personally. Realize that people are going to be weird for a while. We're all creatures of habit and our comfortable routine has been severely disrupted, so we spout our displeasure in odd and sometime inappropriate ways.
Just an unasked for $.02 worth. HUGS!!!!!

I just placed my order for custom cabinets Two Drawer cabinets on either side of the Stove. Also a Sink cabinet for a work center Sink by Kraus. As well as dishwasher surround to be placed next to the sink cabinet. It Dish washer and Sink will form a peninsula which i hope to make enough counterspace to use as a dining counter. This will allow me to remove the Kitchen table from the living room. I never used it anyway.

Taking my L shaped kitchen and turning it into a Galley. Giving me more counter space by a hundred percent. On either side of the Refrigerator I am going to do Wire racks that go up to counter height. This will give me a narrow counter to put Coffee maker and Microwave/convection oven. these racks can go as high as needed as well. Good for staples that I consume regularly. Canned soups for sauce making. packets for seasoning like stir fry or Chile. As well as Canisters of Dry goods and spices. I Don't mind it all being visible.

I really like the flexibility of the wire shelving. Need more space buy another shelf...
The bulk goods will go in the pantry which will have access on the other side of the Peninsula. Extra pots and pans will go in there as well as the appliances that I don't use often. Or only use in concentrated effort like a weekend of preserving.... Dehydrator, vacuum sealer.... Pressure Canner Huge stock pots.

Oh and I have before pictures that will shock most people. when he pulled the drywall down because of water damage and mold I noticed there wasnt fire blocking in the wall. He agreed and now the wall gets stripped all the way to the ceiling so he can put in fire blocking in. especially important for a wall that has a stove on it.

He also found the leak. When someone put the drywall in he drove a dry wall screw right through the pvc water line. :th from the looks of the water damage its been leaking for years. Hidden by cabinets. and slowly making the OSB swell and ripple and Grow mold.

Crazy but I told him if its cancer cut it out... no need to get my permission. Because I expected to have to replace ALL the sub floor.

Oh and I hope to revamp the lighting in the kitchen. I want pendant lights over the peninsula and task lighting over the stove and drawers. Also need a new Range hood and Rethinking back splash concept.

The counters will be butcher block. Easiest to get hold of and working with them will be easier as well. Nice stain and about four coats of spar varnish to protect them.

I found a source for Broken Talovera tiles by the pound and I am going to experiment with them do see how well I do. If I like the results that will be my back splash as well as a decorative free form mosaic along the wall. Right now there is no color.

White Shaker Cabinets All plywood construction with Maple doors. Then wood look floors. As well as Wood butcher block counters. Stainless Refrigerator and sink Black stove and Dishwasher. Kind of like a blank slate. Which I will color with wall hangings and art.
