The Old Folks Home

Curfews have been put in place here, and the National Guard called in. Anyone violating the curfew, 60 days in jail and a $500.00 fine. That's just for breaking curfew.

Unlike times when there have been other riots, this time is different due to Covid-19. Those 50 rioters, and looters arrested last night, began asking what time they would go before the judge. Most were expecting business as usual, and to go before the judge this morning and be released on recognizance. Not happening. The soonest they will see a judge in on June 2, when our courts re-open. They could either arrange bail, or wait in jail until then. The whine was on.
Quarantine from 7 pm to 7 am in La Mesa.

Couple observations I've had, they say the people creating chaos are not locals..Then where are all the looters taking all the crap they are stealing??? Also, these areas of chaos are known for their gang bangers, already known for crime,... where are 'they'... The gangs?? No shootings?
Makes me think these rioters are usually everyday people...makes it hard to understand.
SMH Beer... SMH.... makes me want to go home all the worse. We can Carry concealed on our own property Or not concealed as long as its unloaded.

I know there are retired law enforcement people living up on the mountain as well as people currently working at one of the prisons. Not to mention the gun Club and practice range... they have military ordinance. Every once and a while I hear one go off.

I am so glad we live where we do. The nearest large city is KC and it's over two hours away. Kirksville is only something like 14000. We like small town living....especially now.

I don't know if y'all remember me talking about doing a portrait of a family friend's French Bull dog. I started the portrait over a year ago, working on and off with it as I felt like it. I've been drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil or crayon. I think my earliest memories are drawing when I was like 4. I took art in high school thinking about a career in art then it dawned on me that if I did it for a living I would be taking the joy out of it. My niece who studied art in college asked me why I didn't pursue a career in art and I told her that then it wouldn't be fun!

I've sold some paintings and sketches at Sci Fi conventions, but basically I enjoy drawing and painting what I like or doing a sketch as a gift as this one is intended. Once an artist at a Sci Fi convention looked at my work and commented that she had never seen anybody get shades out of pencils like I do and asked me if I had ever considered working with prisma pencils (colored oil pencils) I just chuckled. At the time I was recovering from RF, off work and money was pretty tight. Sure I told her but being poor, I was stuck with pencils!

DH bought me a boxed set of artist's pencils, paper, watercolors and brushes. My retirement plan!

So here, just about finished is Loki:

Nice portrait!

Gallbladder Gone
Uterus Gone
90 percent of my stomach... gone
ACL Ligament repaired

I have 3 + 6 + 6 + 2 = 17 Laparoscopic incision sites.

As soon as I loose the last 100 pounds and stabilize there will be one more repair for the hernia caused by my abdominal surgeries. I am hoping they can do this at the same time as they remove the excess skin below my belly button.

The physical therapy will allow me to finish the weight loss. Standing walking and moving is my goal for that. Then I will be able to get my goats and take them for hikes. My last four were a hoot and kept me from focusing on myself.

You have come a long way already :hugs

One Bright moment out of all this... the day after the riot People from the community OVER a thousand showed up with brooms shovels and tools to help clean up the mess.

When the mayor of Wilmington announced the curfew, he said, "this is not about community, it's about chaos." The people who posted on facebook, inviting people to go downtown for the protest, tried to make it seem like they were part of the community. Their mistake was that at least the local black leadership are smarter than that - they have a good relationship with the local police departments, and know that all people, working together, is what benefits the most people in the long run. Lord knows, Wilmington has had its share of trouble in the past, but a lot of people are putting a lot of energy into trying to move beyond that. We can't help what's in the past, all we can do is focus on the future, and try to make it better. Destroying property, putting already stressed businesses out of business and getting people injured or killed is not the way to achieve that.

they say the people creating chaos are not locals..Then where are all the looters taking all the crap they are stealing???

I'm not usually a believer in conspiracies, but that is apparently what this is. Yes, when booking records are looked at, a lot of the people getting arrested are locals, but some are not. I think what is happening is a bunch of stupid locals are letting themselves get led about by the nose by outsiders who are bent on stirring up trouble. As local NAACP president Deborah Dicks Maxwell pointed out, timing the protest to run until after sunset, the instructions to wear dark clothing and cover their faces and tattoos, to avoid filming - clearly indicates someone intending that the participants will be taking part in something where identifying those responsible is going to be necessary, and they wanted to make it as difficult as possible. People don't generally feel a need to be secretive when what they are doing is all legal and uplifting, y'know? I swear, I'm reminded of Charles Manson - he was convinced that the U.S. was going to have a race war, and he sent his "family" into the community on killing sprees to try to help it happen. This seems to be on a much larger scale, and the only thing that's going to stop it is enough people saying, "not in our town, you don't. Go home, get a life, and stop trying to ruin ours."

. . . aaand, some people are predicting a major spike in Coronavirus cases after all this antisocial non-distancing. Whattaya bet they are right?

Yesterday, our mayor, and a lot of local law enforcement, joined the main protest downtown. Everything was peaceful, and went well. The crowd dispersed early, so everyone could get home safely.

During that time, word was sent to law enforcement, that since attacking businesses had not worked, they would be going into neighborhoods that nigh, attacking residences, and residents. That's when the curfew was put into effect.

There does seem to be an outside influence, trying to incite rioting, as well as hatred for all law enforcement, and people not of color. Pallets of bricks mysteriously appeared at riot sites. Fortunately, our county has done quite a bit, over time, to discourage this. Things were quiet last night. Today, the Tampa Bay Bucs (football team) are asking people to join them, as they go help clean up impacted areas that were affected from the rioting.

My murmur did a weird thing. It was a grade 2 at worse, then suddenly the doctor told me that he was only hearing it on occasion, now they tell me that they can't hear it. Seems as though as you age, the axis of your heart changes and when it does, if you have a mitral valve regurg, it can make it either better or go away.

I still know it's there tho, just waiting.......Cardiologist told me the worst that could happen is that I'd need it replaced when I was older and that would be a duck soup procedure.

Well, I'm old and still working with original parts...with the exception of the old gall bladder and appendix that is.
Thank you for your input on the regurg. I definitely fall into the older category now, and sometimes, I stay so tired it's a struggle to hold my head up and carry on a decent conversation. Nevertheless, this old bitty still has some living to do - despite and in spite of the diagnosed disorder and it's so called "duck soup" repair procedure. I figure if all things are so easy breezy why not do the procedure locally. I don't drive anymore, Jacksonville is not in walking distance from Savannah, Ga., and I don't trust the surgery at this point. So, as stated before, I'm going to keep on Clucking and Quacking for now - time will dictate further actions, if any are to be taken.

I've been racking up surgeries (including a hernia repair) since 1992 and the end doesn't seem to be in site - yet, thanks in part to Corona, I'm on sabbattical and the pay is stinks.
