The Old Folks Home

We have a high haze here and some really interesting sunsets from the smoke moving to the east. Almost like a high cloud cover.

Last night we were watching the sunset and could look directly at the sun without eye discomfort and it was an orange red color. Really cool. But not so cool for you all out west.

While evening skies gave been lovely here, Im all for getting control of the fires. Maybe controlled burns would be beneficial. But from what a scientist who studies forests said was the lack of rain is the game changer. Perhaps is that remains a factor controlled burning is too risky.

Another factor is it being dry and lightening sparked fires...then there is the just plain stupid knothead factor of people setting off smoke machines during gender reveal parties during fire season. :he

Sometimes I don't think there is much hope for mankind.:hmm

California gets little to no rain from March to November each year so that is not a factor here. The factor here is hotter weather. LA hit 121F the day before the fires started. Death valley hit 130F. The extra heat causes extra drying and then the odd winds and thousands of lightning strikes without rain caused the fires here in California

Oregon and Washington do usually get more rain on the coast then we do so maybe a bigger factor there

Good morning OF. There's a haze in the high atmosphere. Local weather guy said it is smoke from the west coast fires.
Same here, not all that noticeable unless you were expecting totally clear skies. Apparently there was enough smoke way up there to limit our temp today. It was supposed to be about 60°, never got over 55°.
