The Old Folks Home

Any of y'all use the heating pad in your brooder and how tall do you make your frame for it?
4" in the front, 2" in the back (to the pad) to start. I strap the pad up under the frame and put an old pillowcase around the whole thing. A few pieces of Gorilla tape will hold it up, be careful that there are no exposed sticky edges.

I've used it that way for 4 of the 5 batches of chicks I've gotten and will use it again this June. Didn't know about the MHP method when I got my first girls in 2012.

I am not sure what year,
2017, look at the picture you posted ;)

Dh and I have the house to ourselves today.
Enjoy the quiet!

Yes indeedy.. warming up here for sure... Almost time for that bathing suit to come out (j/k). Sitting here eating a couple of sunny side ups on a Belgium waffle and drinking liquid go juice. Hope you are warming up too.
Oooooh.... wish I had stopped by to share so!

:drool

I wish I could do both love and laugh emojis on that one! What a hoot! Looks like he prefers the red cherries to the others.

I've really enjoyed his healing journey with you. Prince has such a beautiful face and shape to his comb and waddles. Three of my bachelors have frost bite on their big dangly waddles. I told them that once the bad areas shriveled, dried and fell off they would be much happier and not miss them at all. My boys with waddles the size of Prince's came through the freeze without any damage.

Gotta love small combs and waddles on roosters.
Well, he just turned 18 weeks old too, so his comb and wattles have not fully developed but I'm sure they will. His dad's are HUGE.
So glad you enjoyed the journey with me. A friend of mine thinks I've lost some altitude mentally, but I think it's just some turbulence in my flight path.. On the other hand I asked him what's the difference between a chicken and a parrot? Chickens seem to be just as intelligent as parrots although they don't pick up our language or mimic us like a parrot would. They certainly enjoy company, and he's been behaving accordingly. I give Gator a treat and he's got to have one too.. I feed Gator breakfast and he's got to have some too. Gator lays on the floor to nap, and he's right there beside him napping too. To me that would definitely count as 'knowing' what another species is doing and wanting to join in. Still waiting on him to want to turn pages when I read. Ha ha ha..

Rub bacon on the wire....
Didn't even have to rub bacon on the hot wire I have around my pens.. and I managed to bump into it with my knee. Didn't feel a thing until I was reaching over the cattle panel to put feed bags between the two hoop coops and the inside of my arm touched the panel.. Dang that hurts!

Thanks @bruceha2000.

@CSolis my worse encounter with my hot wire was the day I was moving a bird into my run. I had the poor bird in a wire kennel. Went to wrestle the kennel through the gate and wasn't watching the hot wire. corner of the cage hit the hot wire during a pulse. Chicken screamed, I screamed, cage with me hanging onto it bounced up about a foot. Let's just say I never made that mistake again.

I'm trying hard not to laugh at your description! There's nothing that makes you react faster then a hot wire!
