The Old Folks Home

Good morning sourland, and everyone! I hope today is a "good" day for everyone.
It's a wunderful day in the neighborhood, the neighborhood... 7 days left on eggs in the bator.. Not seeing much action in Henrietta's last two eggs x Charlie... Nor can I see squat in the EE eggs yet. BUT! I can see swimming and heartbeats in the BCM eggs. I'm most eggcited about her eggs because it will be Prince's first proof of siredom.. I'm anxious to see what my two lovelies produce.

Our elderly and infirmed across-the-cul-de-sac neighbors sold their house and moved to assisted living out-of-state. A flurry of activity over there last week as crews and large moving vans spent a couple of days emptying the house into trucks and dumpsters. Then a cleaning crew spent a day and a troop of utility trucks came in to spray paint the locations of underground lines and whatnot. Yesterday a new dumpster arrived and a bulldozer came and scraped the whole front of the property of overgrown scrub. Looks nice (naked even), although I'm sure the coyotes are saddened. OMG! I can see my neighbors now! Also a view up the street! Did I mention the scrub had been growing for as long as I've lived here? Met the new occupant and discovered he's going to gut the house and do some additions, plus landscape and put in a pool. Wow!

Funny thing, while his bulldozing project was going on yesterday, our other neighbor across the street couldn't be outdone and spent the morning riding his new-ish tractor around his front yard. IT IS SO QUIET TODAY!

Danged I got a lot done already today... Came in to cool off a bit. Mowed the front and side yards with the new LawnMax mower and bagger.. Everyone got their fill today and then some.. Scraped off the tops of the hen houses (they love roosting on top of them at night), cleaned all the water buckets, got the weed eater out and cleaned around fence lines, then got the Remington out and got a good chunk of the front 40 done. Then I came in, fashioned a top from garden fencing for the 3 week olds in their new cardboard box brooder (from the new lawn mower) and set them out on the front deck under the eave. They are getting their first taste of 'outside' today. It's 82 degrees in the shade but breezy, so they should be fine as old wine.

Ya know, I got two 'Ameraucanas' at TSC, but when you go to the website and try ordering them, Hoover's doesn't have them, only Americanas.. I double checked the spelling at the store to make sure there was a 'u' in the name plate.. But besides that, those chicks are 3 weeks old.. I wish they would hurry up and get old enough so I could sex them. They are going in with my two EE pullets when they reach 18 weeks, and I'm sooooooooo hoping for one of them to be a cockerel. Go figure, the one time I'm hoping for a boy, I'll more than likely have two gals. ha ha ha..
