The Old Folks Home

Everyone locally was raving about how their peas were sprouting, so I planted mine figuring I was going to be behind the curve (again) in the garden. Put them in the ground and then we had a week of near-freezing temps at night in the garden. I figured all of my germlings froze. But no! It took them 3+ weeks, but I'm seeing little green sprouts.
Wonky weather... A week ago freezing and now going to be 83 on Easter Sunday. Another "What season is it?" year where we'll all be confused. Plant all the plants and see what sticks (kind of like throwing spaghetti on the wall.) Sigh....

Just wait until the mimosas start blooming here. I have lots of them on my land. I saved them in groups of two or three.. Should make for nice ornamentation. Fortunately they are far enough away from the house that they won't cause any problems with pipes, septic tank etc. Plus there is one BIG magnolia tree out back I can see from the kitchen window. It has flowers the size of a dinner plate.

True!

Magnolias do tend towards huge surface roots... and such dense shade that there is only dirt beneath them.

They are fantastic southern trees.

I wish there were an easy way to repel foxes. I don't have hardware cloth around the run but I have doubled wire fence and thought the holes were to small for a fox. Before dusk the chickens created enough noise for the whole neighborhood to hear. Something was able to reach inside and plucked a bunch of feathers but the guilty party was gone. Believe it was a fox cause I've see to many. The people down the road have their chickens free ranging. I havn't seen the hawks for a whole week. I wonder if the male stays close to the female when she's nesting.
