The Old Folks Home

Had to laugh (sort of) at our household.... Everyone is lame! I've got wonky knees, DH has a monster callus. With the greyhounds, diva Dolce (greyhound) is three-legged waiting for a corn to emerge, Norman is two-legged dealing with corns and a recent wrist sprain, and Selene is in the best shape with her chronic corns that have abated somewhat. Luckily we have carpet and lots of lawn, so the dogs have it mitigated. (If you haven't guessed, greyhounds are VERY prone to corns, especially those that have raced.)

We're kind of like Snow White's dwarves: Gimpy, Limpy, Hop-along, Stubby and Grumbles.

Well, Goooooodddddddd Morning OF.. One EE egg has pipped (wrong end) anddd Two of Prince and Mara's eggs have pipped. It's a beautiful day!! Depending on how many of the dozen hatch I still might get a few Saphire gem chicks.. But then I have 6 of Lady's eggs sitting and waiting their turn.. She's the Beilefelder.

I hope the coop is an easy fix!

Well, he took a look at it, and we found another wall. The wood is so sturdy and nice that we hated to waste it, so I told him that nobody says a coop has to be rectangular. It will probably be 5 or 6 sided, and we found a nice spot close to the house between two large trees to set it up. Now if he gives me a reasonable estimate and can fit it into his schedule, the chickens will have a big walk-in coop. Walk in would be a big plus, IMO. It has been sitting out in a field since who knows when without seeing any love.

Good morning all. Hope everyone has a good Easter.

Here, new whole house water heater arrived and is installed. Still no word from the company who made the old one with a 5 year warranty. Of course the heater died at the one year mark so you would think that the company would stand by their guarantee. No such luck it appears.

My dear husband said he was going to release the kraken and have me call them which I believe I will do on Monday.

I got a raised bed built yesterday and drug out to the garden. Thig was made of two old oak plants that used to be part of a corral so it was heavy as you can imagine. I have one more to build but frankly my muscles need a break.

We had two raccoons visit the back porch a couple of nights ago. A sow and one baby. Momma has to go but I don't have the heart to off the baby. It will probably be caught and relocated to the north end of our property where there is an abundance of food and water.

We had a little stray cat show up in our barn and set out food for it. The next day I found a suspicious wad of hair on one of our trails. I fear the foxes have struck and kitty didn't survive. D*** foxes anyway. I know we have quite a few around right now. Their paw prints were all over in the snow over the winter, all different sizes. No idea how to get rid of them. MODOC has said shoot them but frankly I would have to set up all night and I enjoy sleep better than hunting.

Weather is great here so we are off to split wood.

Today is DH's and my 14th wedding anniversary!

Maybe I could talk to one of them and see about them setting up some traps here.
It is out of season to sell fur's or trap right now. Therefore they can't come until next winter. You can (now or anytime) if they are a threat to your livestock such as chickens. Although most people who trap would be glad to have another spot next year. Myself I'd love to have another spot near me to trap. Not for the hides but to reduce predators near me.
