The Old Folks Home

I have to laugh at myself. I moved the 5 week old babies outside into a hoop coop. then moved the 3 week olds into the corner where the 5 week olds were, so I could set up the two new brooder tubs where they would have a heat lamp. The 3 week olds, now have a lamp that produces full spectrum light and also some heat. I had been wondering why in the world none of my Prince babies out of a BCM hen were showing any red leakage at all in their black feathers.. Also two of Prince's siblings were not showing any leakage.. Well, when you take them out from under the red light, and stick them under the full spectrum light, lo and behold... red leakage. Who woulda thunk it?

After getting the inside part of the Mini Split heat pump up yesterday, I will wait until tomorrow to work on the outside part. No rush since we have a cool down going on here for the next couple of days.
I have seen those units and thought if I ever have to replace the heat pump, that would be the way to go. What made you decide on them?

It takes some time for the leakage to start. Those that start early are often cockerels LOL!

Yeah, I was thinking out of 11 chicks I might have only 3 pullets. Half of Prince's offspring have leg feathering and half don't. Of Charlie and Henrietta's babies, I got the first one with some cockoo barring on the wings. One out of four offspring to have it.. The rest look like BCMs.

I wanted to replace a window AC and we have 220V at the spot where the hot tub used to be. This one is 20ser while the best I get for a window unit is 10 or 12 so it will be more efficient.

I can use it to cool off the kitchen when I bake too.

This one is DIY so I do not have to pay for someone to evacuate lines and charge with freon.

The same company makes a DIY kit to replace your central system now too.

I have a 100 gallon LP tank sitting outside that ONLY feeds the stove. I'm going to get a standalone unit for the living room, which should heat most of the house during the day when it's cold out. As for A/C, I thought about the split units. I hear the cost of electrical is going to go wayyyyyyyyyyyyy up.

It already has gone up here!

This mini split will heat down to 5F at 80% efficiency. We never get that cold! Usually the coldest night is between 25F and 32F
