The Old Folks Home

Here's a helpful hint: When buying cabbage starts for the garden, do some research. Had no idea that 45-Day Golden Cross Cabbages were miniature ones. They're about the size of a tennis ball. Going to make sauerkraut today... Guess it'll be a small batch!

They are pretty... :idunno

Morning Old Folks the day to remember but all days respect the ones that served the others that died.
This one is for the ones that died. The one in the Fall is for the ones that lived.

It is not bad to remember all of them though

Many went though wars and lived yet died. How many came back damaged beyond repair or how many MIAs are still out there that may be dead.

My favorite saying that I used to put up on our office door was 'Remember the Fallen and if you love your Freedom, take time to thank a veteran today'

Frankly we don't do that enough.

Originally the holiday was celebrated on May 30th. It was changed to the 31 in 1971. The VFW in the town we lived near in IL would come to the old cemetery next door to us on Sunday before Memorial day Monday and do a 7 gun 3 shot salute. If they were short a man or two they would knock on the door and ask us if we would like to fill in, knowing my husband served. We never said no and filled in many times. I always found it emotionally moving.

Now we do a private salute on the 30th. Only three shots but our gratitude is genuine.

Some deal with it better than others.
Many don't have a choice.
PTSD isn't always just psychological, for many it's actual physical damage to the brain, blast-induced traumatic brain injury.
Now that they know this say prob main cause of psychological disorders in the military since big booms were invented, revolutionary war on up.
Veterans are double the suicide rate, 6,000 or more a yr.
