Hey OF! I’m glad to have found this thread again. We’ve had some giant wasp nests over the years. DH had to spray one yesterday after getting stung. We try to let them be as much as possible but they get cranky late in the season.

I remember before they developed the wasp and hornet spray we would put a little gasoline in a coffee can and toss it at the nest then run like the dickens.

I need to rant here a minute....

You'd think I would have noticed the color on the bottoms of my Blue Australorps' feet by now, huh? You've had them 17 weeks, Sally, come on!

Well, I didn't, until today. They're yellow. Yellow, yellow, yellow. Not Pink. So not Blue Australorps. They are pretty birds, and I like them very much. I'm not going "into" breeding, so this doesn't matter. (Unless they don't lay well, or something.)

I won't name the breeder I got them from. But I surely won't buy from her again. I got them from her because I could buy 5, not 10 or 15. And she was close enough to drive to and pick them up.

Maybe my neighbor will split an order with me next spring, and I'll get some from Welp. @3KillerBs has gotten Blue Australorps from them, and gotten good birds.

Ya know, I'm still figuring this chicken stuff out. 4 hens I got last year are supposed to be Black Astrolorp x Black Silkie with a mystery bird mixed in. I lean towards Ayam Cemani or Swort Hona. So they've all got black skin and 5 toes and have been great layers of incredible eggs. They've had a Cockoo marans son for a hubby and Barred Rock hubby since they were in two separate groups. Each roo having his own wives. Their daughters all have barring and are small like their mommas. Those daughters are now producing cute little bantams from K.E. They are early layers, consistent layers, and just a bunch of chuckles.
My other cross (the first year) was a Cockoo Marans with a Black Sex Link hen, which has produced me some awesome pullets. Hearty, laying well, and much larger than their mother.
I guess the whole point of this is... Is it truly that important that you have a specific breed if you aren't breeding for show? I love those offspring that I've raised up as much if not more than store bought chicks. Mainly because they are bigger and stronger, good egg layers and I know who mom and pop are.

Did get my tables scraped birds moved from one to the other letting me get is done .. Few wheere having indoor dirst baths .. BF started a fire in the stove so warmed the house nicley.

I wish you were close enough for me to sell you some of my extras in a month or so when I know which of the 15 I want to keep. They're wonderful birds.

As a general rule, I don't get a lot of phone calls. Today, I had an appointment to get my hair cut. My phone blew up. I finally turned it off, until I got done, and went outside. Sheesh!

For those of you thinking there are not a lot of kids coming across the border without their parents, think again. It's tragic. A little firsthand experience.
