The Old Folks Home

I always thought I was claustrophobic in certain situations but luckily the MRI didn't bother me. Super considerate people had me wearing headphones and asked me what kind of music I like. I told them Classic rock. They even let me pick the era so the hammering sound was dampened down a lot.

Maybe the music was also a distraction for me as well as a sound damper. He has been through so much. I don't blame him for being a bit shell shocked by the prospect of more surgery.

Yeah, DH and both got music when we had our respective MRIs. I would have thought that was normal...

They asked me what I wanted to hear, and I said, "Dan Fogelberg." They started playing John Fogerty, but someone caught it and changed it.

I love Dan Fogelberg! Had all of his albums at one time. I thought it was such a shame when he passed at the age of 40 from Prostate cancer. Too young, much too young!

They usually schedule his MRI in an open tunnel. This was an emergency MRI (night time) and they had a full schedule coming up so they couldn't do it at a slow er pace to keep him calm. When your anxious to begin with and you feel you are being pushed into something, it makes matters worse. Claustrophobia makes him feel like he's being strangled, can't breathe and it makes his heart pound. Nobody could convince him that if he can't breathe, that a nurse would stop the MRI. So even with heavy sedation where he talked non stop and music, in the back of his mind he felt in danger unless he knew I was there.
He had just come home from the hospital where he had less then adequate care and at that time the nurse didn't keep their promises- such as taking him on walks and never showing up but the minute he got up he was forced back into bed. To mention just a tiny bit of his experience
