hush on reworking pens

Reworking, reworking, reworking pens. Took me about an hour and a half at a leisurely pace to deconstruct one end and reconstruct the remaining end. I used the 4 extra panels to create more of a hip roof so the water doesn't have a chance to pool on the tarp. KE and Bonnie are the only inhabitants as Sara went in with her son King Wheaties. I've been letting KE and Bonnie out with the other pullets that are in the 32' round pen in the hopes they will integrate. KE loves to go in the big pen and brag about eggs. Gonna have to shut the door to the little pen and go out and capture whoever didn't make it into the big pen and put them there.. then keep them several days until all the dust settles. Then I can move suspected cockerel corn kernels out of the hoop coop where Gen Lee and his ladies are. A couple of them at just 8 weeks are bossing TD around, and that doesn't set well with me.

Note: I was barely finishing up when several of the hens availed themselves of the new facilities. Now I have to fill all the holes around where it used to be so I don't break my neck by tripping.

OH! I discovered who my blue egg layer is! Not the one I expected for sure, but she has to be one of Snowflake's daughters. All her other daughter's look just like she did, but are not blue eggers.
This is Countess! I thought she was a daughter of my Bielefelder. NOT!

Well.... Even though I was in the second row at one of Dan Fogelberg's Grand Rapids concerts, he never made eye contact with me, so nothing happened.

DH has never met Nastasia Kinski. Well, that I know of...

Countess is from a hen that was sold to me as a chick and claimed to be an EE. She and Muffins were siblings. Looks to be white brahma in them.
This was Snowflake. She laid blue eggs, and became my first broody.

And her hatchmate Muffins. Same color but she's got the muffs!

Dad is purportedly to be a Bielefelder. He's got the comb, wattles and temperament, but a bit lacking in coloring for one.

Though he has darkened up quite a bit over the summer as he aged.

I loved and still do his song, Run for the Roses. His horse, Music Man was also named after his father.

It's pretty miserable here today. 34 degrees with west winds gusting to 43. About an hour ago I looked out the front windows and it was snowing! Not just snowing but with the wind gusts it looked like a blizzard. I knew they were calling for flurries but this was beyond flurries. It didn't last long but there were two episodes of what I called 2 minute blizzards.

I'm not ready for this!

Just think! Flea and tick season goes on halt for months! Oh, and don't forget skeeters and yellow jackets too.
