The Old Folks Home

We have 20+ mph winds and are on top of the hill and they are asking for low temps all week so I think the snow is here to stay for awhile. Got freezing rain on top of it so no chance of it blowing down to the neighbors...I wish! I purposely did the shoveling early when it was warmer cause they were asking for high winds and cold...I didn't want to clean ice off the side walks. I don't have access to the sidewalk from the house, gotta walk down the road and come up the other road, but still has to be done.

You all out east are getting what rolled through here on Friday. We got some rain, then freezing rain, then 9 inches of snow. Not much moving as far as vehicles are concerned even yet.

Lots of snow on the south side of the house so we are awaiting the inevitable avalanche that will be happening either today or tomorrow when temps hit 44.

Howdy Howdy.

Yesterday. Laid on sofa and watched X-Files marathon on Comet TV. Yesterday evening, still laid on couch watching X-Files marathon and occasionally watching art tutorials on YouTube. Occasionally rose from sofa long enough to take care of meals and animals. End of day.

Man I'm really starting to grasp the true meaning of the word retired! I think I'm getting the hang of it!

Color is scary!! But I’m leaning now towards using bright accents to tie the rooms together - if I do a yellow kitchen, then I’ll bring that same yellow plus some other bright colors into the living room as art, throw pillows, etc.

Everyone has been so helpful. I’ve never done a project like this before and I’ve dreamed of this house for so long I don’t want to muck it up.
Blooie have you ever considered doing wallpaper trim on the walls up high around the edge of the ceiling or even easier, do it around the middle of the walls like a sort of wainscoting.

I had a small house years ago, all with an open floor plan living room and kitchen. A realtor once told me to always paint your walls a neutral color. Either off white or white. When the time comes that you want to sell, it will help it to sell faster. I took her advice but broke up the ceiling white with wall paper trim in an English Ivy pattern. Loved it. I'd do it here but the walls are textured.

You could even consider putting a lightly stained 1X3 or 1X4 trim board up at the top of the walls at the ceiling and then putting trim on that since your walls are textured. We did that with our whole house as the previous owner used metal barn siding for ceiling. Steam punk look. I didn't think I would like it but I love it. When we asked him why he did the ceilings that way he said in that distinctive Amish accent they all have,

Well, I 'hed' a lot of metal 'sidin' left over and ran out of dry wall so I figured what the heck, I'd use up the 'medal'.

He asked if we were planning to dry wall the ceiling. Nope, we liked the steam punk look and besides, along with reflecting heat it never needs painting!
