Well dangit! I thought all 5 of the EE babies were pullets.. Now at 5 weeks old, one of them from my hen Countess is getting a pink comb..

that calls for a comb removal there fixed no more worries instant pullet

Hmmmm, you must be up in the mountains.. Beautiful country there. But I'm closer to sea level..

We are. 7100 ft elevation, so we can have snow six (and sometimes seven) months of the year. But the summers are glorious.

One of my silkies laid its 1st egg at 6 months tiny thing compared to the normal one

Went to my buds she has bought a place and is getting it fixed up for herself.

Today felt like spring here. Moved the 6 chicks out to the brooder in the feed room. Feels nice to get the bathroom back to being a bathroom.

Then I had to be the really bad chicken mama and take the eggs away from my first broody and give them to the one that started setting eggs a day later. T-Rex decided that she didn't want to get off the nest to eat, drink or relieve herself. After day 6 I said enough and took her off her nest while I candled her eggs. She proceeded to take a mammoth dump for me including diarrhea. That was that.

Screech was willing to tuck the eggs under her. When I dumped out T-Rex's nesting box it was to discover she had been going all right...in the back of the bucket.

Sigh, into the broody buster she did go. So my remaining broody has 11 eggs under her. I do feel bad for T-Rex but I couldn't stand by and watch her damage her own health or the eggs.
