Actually, in a sense this was for them. I changed their pop door from hinged opening sideways to railed opening from the top. Now if my back is screaming I don't need to bend to let them out.

Maybe some of you will have suggestions for a project.

When I bought this place, the coop and run were already here. There were intact chicken skeletons in the coop. Apparently someone had died and they were forgotten.

I don't want to risk that happening again, so I'm trying to think of ways that they can get out if they're left alone too long. I think I can rig their roost to open the pop door when they get down in the morning, or maybe I can figure out a way to make a solar door work (the pop door is in full shade) but I can't think of anything for the run door.

They are used to free ranging during the day.

I should be getting a new wood burning stove shortly. I wanted one with a cooktop built in, but I guess I'll just need to get to work on the outdoor kitchen so I can build my own.

As long as it has a flat top, you should be able to boil a pot of water on it.

A boiling pot means soup, chili, coffee!!

We can boil a pot on ours.

And, usually, the wood stove cook stoves are not very fuel efficient. So, not a good choice for heating the house.

The ones with just a bread/pizza oven might be good though...

Eh.... I would just put a sign in the house, or put a note in your living will.

Morning all! Happy Friday and to those of you who are of the Jewish persuasion, Happy, Peaceful and Blessed Channukah.

I've been trapped in Cookie Hades this week, determined to get the cookies at least baked and in the freezer until I can drag out the sugar and molasses cookies and decorate them next week. So far I've done three batches of sugar cookies, one of molasses, oatmeal choco chip, oatmeal, chocolate crinkles, and Tollhouse chocolate chip cookies.

Had to keep making sugar cookies since the 'defects' kept disappearing mysteriously,

All that is left is a batch of oatmeal raisin cookies then I start to decorate.

We have a Century, EBA wood stove. Thing will run you out of the house sometimes from the heat it produces and it will definitely heat water on the top. I've even cooked a roast on top of it and simmered home made veggie soup just to see if I could. I keep a one gallon tea kettle on it at all times and in the winter use the hot water to wash dishes instead of depending on the water heater.

I wish we had a safe place to use a wood stove being we have a lifetime supply of good oak wood plus enough pine for kindling when nice and dry. My job used to be to carry wood in at night and my little brother would go out and stack it in my arms so I could carry more at a time and get through sooner. It was usually a lot of small oak and then a few large round pieces to but on top of the bed of glowing coal at bedtime to burn until someone got up the next morning. I sure wish I had that old stove to heat my shop now.
