The Old Folks Home

Good afternoon old folks. Made some progress today in two of our hoop coops.
I read a thread started yesterday where someone's hoop coop they had in their run for shelter got covered in snow and collapsed killing two of their chickens. So, not sure where on the package one of those says to keep heavy objects off of it is, but guessing they didn't read that part. :old

I'm 63 and so far, so good. I retired from the stressful job at 56 though which I think helped my future health immensely. I still work, just from home, and with very little or no stress. Stress is horrible on your body, I know that personally!
Change the numbers a couple years, and that's me. I still work, but it's in the garden, hauling wood, taking care of chickens. The pay varies, but NO TAXES!

:thumbsup

If it snows enough to collapse one one of my hoop coops the ice age has returned. It sounds to me like they didn't have the panels connect well enough to the frame or the corners of the frame were not properly connect with bracing. Sad to hear this. Sometimes we learn from hard to live with lessons.

If I remember correctly they were just cattle panels and tarps--no interior bracing at all. It partially collapsed, she cleared it of snow and pushed it upright, then it collapsed again more thoroughly.

3. After putting her grandchildren to bed, a grandmother changed into old slacks and a droopy blouse and proceeded to wash her hair. As she heard the children getting more and more rambunctious, her patience grew thin. Finally, she threw a towel around her head and stormed into their room, putting them back to bed with stern warnings. As she left the room, she heard the three-year-old say with a trembling voice, "Who was THAT?"
I'd just swallowed my tea before reading this one - thank goodness!!! :lau😂🤣

I had horrible leg cramps this morning and today in general.
DH and I take 500 mg calcium citrate with D3 daily to prevent that (and for my old bones).

If he forgets to take his calcium (even though I set out his little dish of vitamin/mineral doses for him every day 🙄 ) he starts getting "charlie horse" cramps again within a few days. Worth a try, can't hurt!

This is why things like that don't generally happen to us old farts because we've done stupid 💩 like that ourselves and learned from it. Now we look at things like a hoop coop and instead of leaving it half done, we finish it to the specs it was intended because we already know if we don't, there'll be a disaster.

My hoop coop is attached on top of t posts hammered into the ground and fencing attached to those. Plus the cattle panels are connected to each other with pig rings. Pretty darned stable.
