The Old Folks Home

Today was early release (Noon) at my grandson's middle school. They sent out e-mails to all the parents. For whatever reason, the busses were not coming early to pick up the kids, so anyone wanting to take advantage of the early release, had to go pick up their kid(s).

So far, so good. There are over 1500 kids at this middle school. One would assume that at least half, or more would go pick up their kids. My daughter left at 11:30 to go get my grandson. At 12:30 I got a call from the school. Why wasn't someone there to pick up my grandson. Hmmmmm. I tried calling my daughter, but she wasn't answering her phone. Unsure as to what was going on, I decided the first problem to tackle was getting my grandson from school. Off I went. When I got there, there was a line of parents backed up for almost 2 whole long blocks.

I called the school, and let them know I had arrived, since they had called me, but they weren't letting the parents in to get the kids, and the line was almost 2 blocks long. Yeah, they were requiring an ID check, and only had 2 people available to check ID's.

Seriously? They were expecting at least 800 parents to show up, and all they had available to check ID's was 2 people? This was not a spur of the moment decision to let the kids out early. I got in line, and was there over an hour, when I finally saw my daughter. Yeah, they had checked her ID a few minutes ago, but hadn't sent my grandson out yet. By now it's 1:40. Just a side note, not one student there is under the age of 12. They recognize and know who is suppose to be picking them up.

When they would check the ID's, they would call into the office to send the kid out. The School Resource Officer thought it was parents calling to complain, and re-routed the calls to the after-hours answering machine. The office was not getting the phone calls to send the kids out, whose parent's ID had been checked. It took 3 hours to get my grandson.

These people at the school are suppose to be educated, organized etc. I'm not convinced. Even scarier is that they are responsible for the education of our youth. So much for the public education system.

Wow that’s ridiculous!!!

I think you are a bread addict, Larry!
Actually my pet chickens are. 2 slices of sandwich bread (the cheap stuff) is my ticket to go about my business first thing every morning. They have me trained. About 10 from the tiny game hen to the big Cornish Cross Roo, they all expect a few bites of bread. Their Daily bread. Got to get them some scratch today. They expect a little of that in the late afternoon.
