Growing up, my mother didn't allow the doors in our home(s) to remain shut for extended periods of time. Of course you could close the bedroom door to get dressed, or for privacy, but when the need was over with, the door was to be opened. Same thing with the bathrooms. Once done in the bathroom, the doors were to be opened. No steam or dampness lingering for long periods of time.
The other thing she insisted on was that all the AC vents were to be fully opened, and stay that way. She always said that good air circulation throughout a home, would prevent molds, and mildew. All I know is, we never had any mold, or mildew problems in any of our homes.
I've always followed that, and never had any issues either, so there may be something to it.
