The Old Folks Home

Good morning, OF. Another cool autumn day here. Leaves are falling without changing color because of the lack of rain.
We had leaves start doing that at least a month ago. Either dry as a desert, or flooded!

We had so much rain...

The leaves tried to put on a show but the rain kept beating everything... the fireweed went all flat on the ground (they turn a wonderful bright red), and the leaves on the trees (all trees that lose their leaves up here turn yellow) were washed off fast.

Since we have mostly oak around the house, the leaves fall a bit at a time, and there will be leaves that hang on until spring. I usually rake once or twice, and then wait until mid-late November and rake up huge piles. Mulch for the garden and fun for the chickens.

Good afternoon Old Folks. Our leaves are starting to fall a little. Once they do start they will slowly drop most of them until spring gets here. I'd rather have them drop them and get it over with. We never have fall color.
I'd rather them all drop also so the freezing rain during winter has less to stick to and break limbs.

It's been so cold here at night. Last night 38F. It's not getting below 40 now for a week though! We don't have the Cozy Coops in the temp coops yet.

The year before Hurricane Sandy we had an early Oct. snow storm - unheard of. Leaves were still on the trees. Massive limbs breaking and trees falling. We were without power for ten days. Followed that with Sandy and no power for over two weeks. That's when we got the total house generator and a 500 gallon propane tank. I smell real bad after 3 days of not washing. :p
