The Old Folks Home

Here is western Washington. Foot hills of the Cascades mountain range. I live in East Skagit county. Seattle is about 100 miles s w of me. Bellingham is 50 miles n w of me. Eastern Washington has drier weather and higher temps and black widow spiders and rattlesnakes. But we have oceans, rivers, lakes, ponds, creeks etc... they talk about droughts out here but I really don't see it in my neck of the woods.

I found myself rather “fluffy” during the pandemic. This had started before but I learned to bake sourdough…..anyhoo I also stumbled onto intermittent fasting. It just made so much sense and as a diabetic it really helps me maintain reasonable blood sugar levels.
Dr. Jason Fung is a Canadian kidney specialist who was horrified to have so many old fat diabetics in terrible shape, people who had doctors and were being treated. I read two of his books, The Obesity Code and The Diabetes Code. Also he has many podcasts on you tube. Very sensible and easy to listen to.
Sorry for lengthy post but this metabolism stuff is so awful but it’s important to know that you can definitely take charge!

Southern Alabama is bone dry.
So is New Jersey. Creeks have dried up and plants and animals are hurting. I have water out for the birds, turkeys, deer - even seen a fox drinking. I believe today is day 35 without rain, and no possibility of rain until 'showers' a week from today. :barnie

Central FL is dangerously dry where we are - not a drop since hurricane Milton. Everything is so dry and crispy I had to put the sprinkler on the other day to try and get the grass / weeds to grow so the girls would have something to nibble on.
We are entering the dry season which means no real rain until next spring. Two years ago we went for 8 months without a spit of rain. It stresses me out when we go for so long without rain. The weather here is so drastic and to extremes, I honestly don't know why people move here. I for one, cannot wait until we can move back - once the family obligation to be here is no longer a need. Until then, it's stress through hurricanes, it's stress through the drought season, it's stress through triple digit temps and high humidity for at least seven months of the year ---- too much stress here. Can't get a garden to grow well despite best efforts with a lot of augmentation. Living on a peninsula is over rated.
Where are you from/want to return to?

58% chance for rain this coming Wed and Thur. That doesn't get my hopes up as it often misses us if the chance is above 90%. If we don't get some mid week it looks like it will be awhile. One hurricane brought rain east of us and the other to the west. Both a blessing and a curse.

We finally got a little relief. Lots of thunder and lightning with a little rain both yesterday and today. I think they actually got some good rain in town.
