Beauty of an afternoon coming on in at -1C (30F) with perfectly blue Albertan skies.

Spoke with Lisa the other day (yeh, regarding Campines no less) and thought I'd drop by and see who was on here chatting. :caf

Been MIA for awhile from the OFH but still make regular posts to my Pear-A-Dice thread and speak often with many from there but via other media.

Sep 25 2025 IMGP6124.jpg

Some are gone, some disappeared without a trace, some no longer have birds but still quite a few good souls out and about playing with their birds as we are. :gig

Oct 14 2025 IMGP0393.jpg

Hoping the whiteness is stupendously forthcoming so we may justify owning our front driveway mobile "flower pot holder" which has just received a full spa week of oil change & filters, repaints, hose replacements, and snow wing re-attached; ready to go from Green season rock rolling to full on White season plowing! :wee

Oct 14 2025 IMGP0401.jpg

The polar bears are happy to welcome in the whiteness...dry hot summers are not indicative to fleecy coats.

Oct 14 2025 IMGP0417.jpg

All our Sweetgrass managed to survive T-day so there is much gobbley celebrations today, eh. Still my fav turkey colour pattern.

Oct 14 2025 IMGP0452.jpg

Second of the fish & waterplant ponds packed up for white season with the Koi & plants stowed away in the heated pump house.

Oct 14 2025 IMGP0428.jpg

Some of the leafed trees are still hanging tight on to their foilage but the next bitta wind should convince them to "let go."

Oct 07 2025 IMGP8580.jpg

Stay warm OF's and keep at it. Best plans of "mice & HUman" ensure we're still able to function fully...one step atta time. We just start the season wrap-up's a tad bit earlier on than them whippersnappers. :old

Remember to change the phrase from "Get off my lawn" to "Get off my snow banks!" :frow

Fabulous photos you posted there! Love the show of canines also.

Heel low:

Post a better photo of the turkeys!!! Please!

And you of all persons "crawling about" should know, once the white hits, stopping long enough to collect photos of certain subjects often is a hit and miss game. LOL

day 12.jpg

These all "used" to be our turkeys...but we have decided in our golden era, that Sweetgrass will suffice. So for now, better photos are from Green season...July actually. Ah yes, July...less crawling, more lounging with camera in tow...more time for such luxuries.

Jul 10 2025 IMGP3541.jpg

July 10th this year, was the final time it "rained poults upon our heads" ... my husband collected up about three of them, put them in a tub and told me, "there's more out there..." with a caring & hopeful tone that I'd get out there tout sweet and save the babies....SAVE THE BABIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

duck barn 2013.jpg

The eight adult SG hens had collectively stowed away a nest up in the rafters of the former Duck Barn ("former" now because my 300+ Calls have passed on due to old age & been replaced by a bevy of just 14 Muscovies...much more winter hardy and far less needy than all the one pounder FTD quackers). I'd never have planned for one hatch, let alone the two the turkey hens managed. I think the toms were in on the deal because even when I tried to do a head count inside the barn, I pretty much always counted 3 toms and 8 hens...ELEVEN!!

2014 yard.jpg

See the tenplast along the ends of the rafters up thar...yeh, thar be the location of said nest that "rained poults" upon us. :sick

If you ever figure you are in control...forget that...the birds are in charge (psst...never forget this roole!).

Jul 10 2025 IMGP3543.jpg

These Sweetgrass boogers were hatched May 28th, again natch hatched and not my "idea" as this year...I got my never used yet Hatching House fully wired and the insides painted to blue and added three more cabinets and yeh...

Oct 10 2025 IMGP0233.jpg

Busters still in the shop awaiting a full clean but he'll join these ones in the Hatch House.

May 25 2025 IMGP6554.jpg

The baby birds needed to wait but the hens, they never do listen.

May 7 2025 lemons.jpg

These are just some of the Brahma girls from inside the Coop fur Sure this past May ...Lemons, one poorly marked Blue and of course, in the middle is Hannah the Horrible (bantam buff Brahma - daughter of Hennible; same legacy). Hannah, she bites (hard) and goes setty often but she's mighty good at it too (the hatching part, not good for her biting the hands that deliver the feed).

May 24 2025 IMGP5690.jpg

I planned to have ONE early hatch this year, let a setty Splash Brahma have a small clutch and she most certainly did. Planned parenthood for May 25th this year.

May 24 2025 IMGP5788.jpg

Have the Splash hen all set up with awaiting fud and drink...barring of course that her fellow hens did not do continued raids on her private stash of special select food.

May 25 2025 IMGP6561.jpg

She managed to keep weight on and successfully hatched out a brood. One Lemon (Splash Buff Columbian) and some Splash.

May 25 2025 IMGP6597.jpg

Even AFTER the hatch, the Splash ladies kept raiding her digs; not that she cared, there's always more delivered so what the hay? :idunno

Oct 07 2025 IMGP8557.jpg

Very happy with the hatch; four girls and one boy.

Oct 07 2025 IMGP8787.jpg

I am hoping this cockerel keeps the rust outta his plumage and grows into a decent replacement for his sire, Kermit.

1 Higgins RAT Ranch Splash standard Brahma May 29 2024 IMGP7475.jpg

This is Kermit...nice enough fellow & the nine hens adore him but he hides one dose for gender linked green legs and I'd like to hope that his son is pure for yellow skin as per the SOP for Brahmas.

So on my "to do" list now...get more recent photos of the Sweetgrass turkelettes...

Ah thanks...happy to entertain.

Yeh, I'm seven Cattle Dogs old; two from the US, two rescues, and one replacement breeding. That makes the five there in 2009 in front of the Dolgo Crabapple tree...the current two are from NSW.

Day of arrival, August 2015...famous "view from the shoe" or "Help, I've fallen & they won't let me up." You know, oldtimers, eh? :old
