Those apples sound so good. I am on day three of Phase 1 of the South Beach diet and I am about to climb the wall for some carbs or even a piece of fruit!

This time I absolutely must lose weight.

Well, it's a gorgeous day and I am paneling the interior of my tiny rolling coop, which may seem like overkill, but I think it will be worth it in the long run when it comes to cleaning.

Absolutely! And a mini-vacation to boot.

Not that I wanted to take one now, but you know... vacation's vacation.

ummmm. . . . apple butter is so good. I like it much better than applesauce for some reason. Go figure. One year my mother and I canned spiced pumpkin. Cube the pumpkin and pour in a sweet pickling syrup with cloves and cinnamon stick.

Definitely saves space in the freezer if you can can. My mother had a bathroom re-done and it included extensive shelving custom fit for mason jars-- and she filled the shelves every summer.

Question for those who process your own birds for the freezer--how to dispose of the trillion feathers: compost? or trash?

Mostly trash. They're slow to break down in the compost pile. What gets all over the ground I rake off into the woods to "compost" on its own.
