It's not as bad as it seems. You'll be kinda bewildered by what to do at first, then you'll be a pro. Do you have a good guide to show you what to cut?

Honestly the hardest part is killing the bird. After that I can cope. I have cleaned a few birds but the number of feathers left has made me appreciate the clean bird in the grocery store. I have hand plucked--did a turkey killed by a fox. Cleaned it quickly while it was hot, easy to get most feathers off. Would definitely cut off the wing tips. That drill based plucker really doesn't help that much. It's hardly significant. Do you have the things to do a scald? That makes it awesome to pluck.

Getting more chilly, and oh boy, we are in for some wet weather..if they are right..at least 5 days in a row!

We had a BEAUTIFUL day here today. The temps were in the 70's, there was a breeze, the sky was clear and the leaves have started to fall. Great football weather and Alabama beat the snot out of Tennessee last night. Next weekend is Homecoming for the University of Alabama and we (boys and I) are planning to get in on some of the tailgating and other activities. Nights are cool and will soon be cold (by Alabama standards, at least) and the woods will take on that wonderful winter smell. I am looking forward to the smell of cinnamon and yams, allspice and pine inside the house. I love fall and winter, can you tell?

It was most definately a good match with me and Lucy. She knew more than I did but didn't take advantage. She would not, however, put up with too much silliness from her teenage owner or the friends of said owner. She rarely bucked, but when she did it was because I was asking her to do something she knew was not in her job description (like run fast instead of maintaining a western pleasure canter) or when I was using a crop. Her buck was like sitting in a rocking chair and was more to let me know I was wrong than to unseat me. If she wanted to unseat you (she never did it to me) she would rub you off on a tree. She only did that to boys that were riding her out of my sight and I suspect were being too rough or disrespectful to tolerate. If I fell off, she would wait for me to get up and dust off, then try to climb back on (which was usually not easy because I rode bareback alot!) One time, I hit the ground because we were galloping down a trail and I thought we were going to go straight and she thought we were going to hang a right toward home and we each did what we were thinking! I got up mad and fussing and she had stopped but she quickly deduced that I was not happy with her and she wheeled around and headed home. She broke two brand new buck stitched reins and scared everyone at he barn but by the time I got to her, I had realised it was my attitude that made her leave me.

I am real curious as to what else we all have in common. Anyone else paint (oil, acrylic, watercolor) or clog? Do you all keep fish or small animals like rats or gerbils? Have you worked in a kennel or vet's office? I know we all like chickens and goats but what other animals do we own (besides horses?) What about college? Professions? Part of the charm of online friends is that you learn new things all the time, so I don't want to know all of this at once, I'm just wondering...

been reading the 100 plus pages. you all sound like great people. I am from California. have horses, chickens, chihuahuas, have doves to sing to me. I love to cook. Use to can. I used to paint with acrylics and draw with chalk. Oh yes I am a dog groomer.
I have 2 children, 2 grand children, 18 and 21. Love the recipes on here. Oh yes have goldfish in my pond with my water plants... I am 63 years old and still learning....
