The Old Folks Home

SCG I don't know if BF is a good hunter but you can hold out hope that he comes home empty handed. My dad used to go "hunting" every year with a neighbor when we lived in Maine. They would be gone for a weekend and always came back with nothing. Well actually, I suspect they would come back with hangovers but no dead deer.

I'm a better (target) shot than him, but not by much. Last year he didn't get a moose (not for lack of trying) but his mom did on his permit. I will deal with it if he gets a deer but I would prefer he hung it up somewhere else. And I'm not sure I would mind if he got a wild turkey (although it's not the season right now unless you hunt with a bow) but I would mind if he's out there with guns loaded drinking Wild Turkey.

SCG they would take their rifles with them but I think the only shots they took were of the adult beverage kind. I only believe this because in all of those years they never came home with a deer. I can't believe my dad, who was in the Army, was that bad of a shot or that bad of a hunter.

Not prepping for Sandy (or Frankenstorm if you prefer

) here. We already had the part of the storm that is coming from the west go over us this week. That is where our snow came from.

I just have to get a few things out of the yard and figure out what I'm going to do with the two hoop houses and the goats. BF thinks we need to bring the goats 3 sided shelter into the garage and let them hang out in there. I say that's a mess I don't really want to deal with... can one diaper a goat?. Either that or he's got to build a more stable outdoor goat shelter after he's done Bambi-ing around the woods this weekend. And unfortunately my IV site is still swollen and painful, so I'm not able to lift or move much with that arm.

Will he have enough time to build a better structure? If not, I would tie everything down as best as possible and have the contingency plan of bringing them into the garage if the winds are going to howl there. Right now, it is probably too far away for the weathermen to be really accurate on what the winds are going to be in your area. Heck, they are not even sure exactly where the storm is going to hit on the seaboard yet.

I was hoping he would just put a door on the current goat house (making it 4 sided enclosed) but he does love to build and plan, so that idea is really off the table.

He could probably have a nice door put up in 2 hours, I could put up a not so nice door in about 20 minutes (mine would be a piece of plywood leaned up against the hole and strapped onto the fence).

I really do not want goats in the house. At least the garage is a garage, but it is right under my bedroom.

The only thing I would worry about with the goat house is the wind getting in and blowing it over with the goats in it. We had a wind storm a few months back that blew over the neighbor's loafing shed for his horses. How much does it weigh and do you think it is low enough to the ground where the wind wouldn't blow it over?

It probably weighs 250 pounds. The last bad rainstorm we got it blew into the shed and everything in there, goats included, were soaked. So I'd say it's probably not appropriate for a hurricane. It is off in the woods so I could strap it to some trees to avoid blowing over, but that still doesn't keep my goats dry.
