The Olive-Egger thread!

So sorry to hear that alicefelldown must downsize! Here is a very pretty pullet that hatched from her eggs:

Could someone tell me if she has a pea comb?

I have one "pullet" from this hatch that I am beginning to suspect could be a roo. The tail looks rooster-like to me, and her comb is turning redder than the other pullets. Here "she" is at 12 weeks old:

The reason I thought it was a hen, is that despite the red comb, it is not nearly as large as the other roosters' combs. Now I am beginning to second guess myself and I would like to move the roos to a bachelor pen soon. Here is the hopeful hen next to a roo for comparison:

What do you think? I appreciate any feedback!

So pretty!! Don't worry about any non-pea birds, we haven't hatched one yet that lays anything 'unexpected'

The 'maybe roo' is looking a bit male, but don't cull just yet - sometimes it takes us until they crow to tell the difference!

Thanks! I'm desperately hoping "he" is a she.

I only have two other girls from your eggs, but that's the way it goes. Some meat in the freezer is never a bad thing either. I do hope I can tell the difference soon, since I'd like to move the roos to another pen. Three of them are crowing up a storm!

I also have an experimental pullet that I hatched from my own eggs, EE roo x Welsummer. I have no idea if my EE roo is carrying a blue gene, but the Welsummer has a very pretty dark egg, so I'm hopeful I will get olive.
Good luck with your move!

well if its a Single comb hen as she looks to be there is a 94% chances she will lay None Green eggs...

Thanks Nicalandia,

These birds are a mis-mash of Olive/BCM/Amera - at this point you can get all sorts of poor/small peacombs. Give her time to grow, you'll be surprised!

Their moms lay quite nicely though

I cannot wait for mine to hatch from alicefelldown....Checked under the broody today and all the eggs seemed heavy and usually that is a great sign..She was so determined to keep setting even after 3 weeks of me taking her eggs everyday..So far, so good she gets off the nest when I go out to feed and right back on the nest she goes. I can't wait for some little Blue and black fuzzies. Especially since I just sold off all my Blue Ameraucanas about a month ago...Now more Blues YAY I sure do miss them( did I mention I am kinda OCD about colors hehe) And cannot wait for some Olive Eggs
