The Olive-Egger thread!

So here is my 3rd generation OE roo. What do you think of his looks? He is 7 months old. Sorry about the blurry pics. He was chasing raisins my husband was throwing to him. Just thought I would share the pics. He was suppose to be a she... wonder what color eggs his chicks would have if I breed him with brown or blue egg layers. I wonder if he has any of the blue genes in him. He has a straight comb, so probably not. oh well....I am an EE hen.

You could breed him to blue or olive laying girls to get some variation go green to olive eggs.

So question does a barred rock roo pass his barring to a non-barred female?
This can be fun to play with - http://kippenjungle.nl/Overzicht.htm

I don't know enough about the nitty gritty of chicken genetics to play with the more detailed "build a chicken" part of this calculator, but hopefully soon.

The weather here is finally ok for rounding up my little chicks for a trip inside to have a photo shoot. I want to see if I can match them up with what eggs they came from, since I didn't tag them at hatch. Hopefully the process of elimination will help me figure out which chick came from where, and what it might grow up to be.

Since my little barred roo has started a big straight comb and has no beard/muff, I'm thinking it's from my BCMxBarred Rocks, not Donna's BCMxBarred EE's

No one else is barred, so I'll have to let them grow out and cross my fingers for an Oliver or blue egg roo.

My barred EE came from a BSL roo (Single Barred Roo) x EE They don't have beards and muffs either

my original EE didn't have beards and muffs.
The plot thickens

I used to breed exotic finches, but chickens are so much more practical. Even 'mistakes' are valuable one way or another. Maybe I'll have to let the little barred guy have a go in the breeding pens next year.

those r gorgeous eggs!!!! Holy hen I want some that r that blue!!!
Wow. Beautiful! And fun! That is my goal...to get lots of different colors like yours! Right now, have white, brown, pink and sea foam green. Just got a Welsummer, 2 amereaucanas and an EE (who may turn out to be an OE) chicks. Can't wait for all those fun eggs! Congrats on yours!

I have to say that I am disappointed in the color of my olive eggs. These are from a FBCM roo X Lav Ameracuana. I was expecting a much darker olive color from this cross. The eggs seem to have quite a bit of a brown hue to them. If I cross hens back to a dark egg layer, will I get a deeper olive color or more of a golden green color?
