Thank you so much!!! I'm a proud grandma indeed! I hope Penguin is as pleased as I am. She just laid ANOTHER in the snow!

I got my first egg from my barnyard banty, and she surprised the heck outta me with the color! She was hatched from this egg

and laid this egg

(the one on the right, the left is from my black cochin bantam)

Perfectly beautiful and sweet at 1.3oz. What colour would you say it is? It's definitely green, but it looks darker than all the other ones i've hatched. (I hatched her egg from a batch given to me by a farmer to eat LOL! He doesn't know he has illegitimate chicken children wandering all over my backyard!) Could it be considered "olive"?????? Whatever colour it is, I couldn't be happier.

I call that olive, and a very pretty olive at that!

Oh thank you all! Yay! An accidental olive!!!! (Or avocado) LOL!
We actually thought she might be a roo up until about 3 weeks ago! So happy she's not!

Now if only I knew who her parents were!!!

I just may have to hatch a few of her eggs this spring. Our roo is an ameraucana dark brahma cross. His mamma and daddy were purebreds.

A couple weeks ago, my OE hen laid her first egg - and it was a nice, darkish olive. But since then, they've been getting browner and browner and I'm worried they're going to lose their nice olive hue. Anybody have experience with this? How much browner are they going to get?

Here's a pic of her first-ever egg (along with others laid that day).

And here's her egg from today. It's still definitely different than the other brown eggs, but less green than before (in the photo it looks a little greener than it actually is).

I find that the colors my olive eggers lay varies from day to day. Sometimes greener, sometimes browner, rather than progressing in one direction. I kind of like the variation, although if you are after a specific color, it may be frustrating.
