The Olive-Egger thread!

juststruttin - that is such a sad story about your rooster, and he was so pretty too. Sorry for your loss, thanks for sharing the photo.
So your olive egg photos are from a CL roo over CP hens...and the offspring looks like the photo of the juvie pullet you also posted - correct?

My OE pullets are basically the same age as yours in the photo, and all seem to match very closely. I would say they all have white ears, which is a different shade than the CL pullets. The main variations I'm noticing are yellow vs white leg color, and little or no crest. Most of the pullets have a small, very light comb at this age and no wattles to speak of. However some show more red in the comb and more developed wattles by 8 weeks, but nothing like their brothers, which look more typically like CP or CL roos.

I do have two batches of OE's from Phage:
one was hatched out around the third week of November, I would say they came from you around Halloween.
the second batch hatched out mid December, probably came from you around Thanksgiving.

Phage mentioned that Partridge Penedesencas might be in the mix, but I haven't seen any evidence of that? I wonder how that would look on the cockerels vs the pullets? Do you have any photos?

Thanks for the info.
Hangtown, too.
Unfortunately, I sold all the chicks early on that were likely Part Pene cross so I don't know what they looked like grown out. My Partridge Pene hen is no longer in the flock as I really want to focus on the Crele and Cream Legbar colors. I will try getting some updated picture of my CP X CL roo - he looks like a purebred Crele Pene roo.

This is a great thread! I love reading it. Very informative! How long does the average OE start to lay? ( about what age) marans/ ameruacana lineage. I am anxious I have some 7 week old chicks.

You still have not answered the question on, whether or not you have worked on them.

I dont have to work with them to know what genes they carry. thats the beauty of Science..

Do I have to cross a Black Autralorp Rooster to a Cream Legbar hen to know I will create Sex links? no I dont. why? many scientist have done the hard work for me. Scientist like Dr. Punnett, Dr. Clive Carefoot, Dr. Ron Okimoto the Genetic giants we Owe so much today, so people like you can come in this web forum and ask away as many senseless questions as their heart wishes to ask and so people like me(Henk, Tim Adkerson, Sonoran silkies, to name just a few) can answer and tell them if its even remotely possible(like getting PINK colored Silkies, which in theory should be possible) and if I´m wrong I am sure any of them will quickly point me in the right way

so No, I have not worked with them. but People I love and admire have worked with them and their hard work has to mean something to you. Thanks to Punnett we all know that P/p+ mated to p+/p+ will yield 50% P/p+ birds, now if you have an issue with Dr. Punnett´s work then you are beyond help.

Marvin, most of us also know how to get sex linked. We all can get book knowledge, so in my eyes if you truely aren't working on it then your book smarts are just that. Those of us that are actually breeding them and can see what happens are the true educators. When you throw around a bunch of letters and such most don't understand. But when those of us are explaining what we have found from trial and error, and you say we are wrong you are stairing folks in the wrong direction

What is the egg color like from a Crele Penedesenca X Cream Legbar?

I haven't seen too many Penes with good egg color (dark), so I can't imagine that the OE offspring would lay a very dark olive colored egg either?
