The Olive-Egger thread!

Thanks guys,

Any roosters that I hatch go into the stew pot if they are aggressive or not nice to the ladies once the get past their "idiot teenage male" phase.  I have a few big older hens that I keep solely for the purpose of educating young roosters as to just who is the boss around the hen house.  Good for you for getting rid of the nasty rooster.:clap   I believe that personality is also genetic.

Those speckled eggs are gorgeous! We have the nicest Marans cockerel that I've ever owned right now, my son would like to replace him, with one with better coloring, but I say a nice rooster is worth his weight.

My (hopefully) olive egger chicks hatched two weeks ago. I have 3 black copper mixed with welsummer/ee'r roo and 6 ee'r mixed with the same roo. I had an EE'r sneak in early on and lay a olive with light brown speckles in the broody box and it hatched. I'm hoping with the Welly/EE'r mixed roo that I'll get some beautiful speckles, too!

I'm wondering if the black copper mix is going to have beard...? The cheeks look a little fluffy.

Where did you get that color chart with the greens? I have a Marans chart and a blues chart but not one for green or olive.

I love the way marans and ameraucana eggs look with the olives.
Yesterday I had one pen with pretty pastel eggs - olive, pale slate, pinky tan. My breeding pen had the drama eggs - sea green with marans colored speckles, sky blue, deep marans red.

I'm adding some leghorns to my main flock to bump production up, and it will be really strange to see white eggs in the mix.

The color chart is a cool idea.

Thanks!

The top eggs are Marans and Cream Legbar

I've been keeping a 4 or 5 year old brown leghorn on the payroll for about 4 unproductive months...Sunday she finally started laying again and it was nice to have one white egg in with the browns, blues and olives.
