Ha! All I had to do was come on here and complain about her. Her nose must have been itching. She is in the nest box right now. I went out to clean them, saw her in a box, and hurried off to give her privacy. Well, she got off..I went to the hose, turned around, saw her hurrying back in.

Oh, question, not this thread related, but since I'm talking about her going to lay..can she be fertile if a roo got to her? I had one going after her more than the others. The last time was just a few days ago..can she be fertile? Thinking maybe this roo got her going for laying eggs.

And, how long are eggs fertile after they have been bred? A week?

Yes, the first egg can be fertile.

It is best to wait at least a couple of weeks though before incubating the eggs. Less than 45G eggs do not hatch as well. I have read that the chicks will not get as big as they should but don't really think that happens.

Just more hatch problems.

These little chicks were the first eggs of a couple of hens I had. The eggs were really little. The hens were marans.

I had a broody last year and at the same time one of my Legbar pullet started laying. I put her first egg under her and it did hatch but was only 30g (just over an oz). However if your eggs are bigger like 52 g or more than I should there would be no problem

Thanks guys. Went out because I heard an announcement. Well! That Reba. She chased out my OE for her favorite nest..everyone's favorite nest.. :/ So, no egg. ?? She was in there for a while. So hoping for tomorrow. So many nest boxes. So many. Silly birds.
I sure hope she lays a nice sized first egg. It's going straight to the bator if she lays a good egg, not a fart egg.

She is practicing.

Did she sing the egg song? I had one get in the nest box, sing the egg song but no egg...several times a day for several days before laying her first egg...in front of the sliding glass door...
