The Olive-Egger thread!

I used a Ameraucana over a French Black Copper Marans hen. This is my Olive Egg compared to Leghorn and Buff Orpington Eggs.

I was wondering if someone could tell me what colored eggs I would get from a hen who has a 1st generation Olive Egger mother and a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana (blue egg layer) father? Would it be a light green egg? Thanks!

I would think just green. Unless the Olive Egger mother lays a dark brown egg, then you might get olive.

I plan to cross my golden cuckoo roo with several Americana hens this spring. Also I have one olive egg layer I want to cross with him also. Love the variety in my egg cartons

Cuckoo Marans don't lay a very dark eggs so that will darken the eggs on the Olive Egger but not to a DARK brown like a Copper Marans.

Hello fellow BYC'ers! I have a question: I am a small hobbiest chicken breeder and each year I try to make my stock better for standards that apply but moslty vibrant egg colors. Apparently my dark egg line bred BC Marans roosters from last season made some F1 OE's with my blue wheaten ameraucana hens for this year to be used to go back to my newer even now more dark egg gene carrying BC marans roosters... All sounds good right? Well to my surprise these F1 olive eggers I made this fall are laying as dark in my oppinion F2 eggs are supposed to be! So what do I do stop at F1's??? I would hate for my F2's to be so dark they look like marans eggs!please any thoughts, tips or suggestions would be highly appreciated!thanks in advance!
