The Olive-Egger thread!

A French Black Copper Marans x Blue Ameraucana could not possibly yield a splash chick... splash requires two dilution genes, and one would have to come from each parent. Genetically that mix should only give you blacks and blues.

What could be happening in your chick is a hidden gene, a sport. This can be some sort of recessive mutation that was sitting in the background, just waiting for the perfect situation. It will be really interesting to see this chick grow up!
Thank you...from all the things that I HAVE read, I didnt think it was possible either! Now I know Im not losing my mind :)
Will update with pics as she changes!

I had pretty low odds of hatching a Frizzle, Im so excited about this olive egger chick! I sure hope it turns out to be a little girlie!

Please excuse her mess, she dines on delicious fermented food :)

I'd love to get input on the gender of my 6 week F2 olive eggers I hatched from LarkRise. Both have small pale combs but I couldn't possibly be lucky enough to end up with 2 pullets!?!?!

One is all black and one is specked with gold, I love their big cheeks, they almost look tufted!

The red from what she was standing on reflected upwards making it look like she has red wattles. Really they are very tine and totally pale.

I think you may have hit the jackpot! I have F-2 chicks here the same age, and the boys are definitely pinker than yours. (One of them is already pathetically crowing, too.)

Leah, I'm going to guess girls!

So happy to have found this thread. I am considering adding some Blue Copper Marans roo x Olive Egger hen eggs to the incubator. The hens have wonderful fluffy beards and pea combs. They are laying light greenish eggs, so I am guessing the offspring would lay a darker egg... My question is what are the chances I would get offspring with beards and pea combs vs single combs and no beards. I am beginning to understand color genetics, but haven't figured out the beard/comb thing yet ;)
