The Olive-Egger thread!

Here are a couple of pics of the Wellie Roo x Wh Ameraucana crosses I mentioned...

First pic shows one with a straight comb that lays a brownish/red egg.

The pic below shows the same hen in the forground and behind her is another with a pea comb who lays a nice Olive egg.
To the right of them both is a pure Wellie and an EE... Barnie in the background...

Out of our 1st try for OEs, BCM roo x 2 different Ameraucanas, 6 hatched 10-26-2012 and it looks like only 1 will be female. I'm holding little hope for fuzz-faced white, build is too similar to feather-legged white who just started crowing. Shame, they're spectacularly striking. Will try to post pics.

Anyone else ever hear of BCM roosters breeding disproportionately male chicks?

That ratio sucks, but don't blame your rooster. It's the girls who choose the sex of the offspring.

x2 and YES it happens. I have had all pullet hatches and all roo hatches. It evens out eventually. Today I have some hatching the the other day I hatched some. I had Rhodebars got 2 pullets, last hatch 5 pullets. No roos yet.... I don't think. AND I have just hatched Cuckoo Marans, 5 pullet to 1 roo. Same with my Sex linked EE... I had 2 pullet hatched when I left. Really, odd but I find in the spring I get more pullet hatches. BUT the other breeds I hatched, could be all roos for all I know. I know I hatched 2-3 Crested Cream Legbars roos (1 is a mystery cross so gender is unknown)

It happens and there is NOTHING you can do about it. Just keep hatching

Sex-Linked EE's!!!! That's AMAZING! Put that in my chicken projects thread, cause that is just a truly amazing project!!!!!

Olive egger question: If you cross an olive egger male (a cross of a Marans and an Ameraucana) with a blue layer (say, Ameraucana or legbar), will some of the resulting female offspring lay blue eggs?

I believe that since that male probably carries some of the brown egg genes, you would probably still get olive, or at least some shade of green, rather than blue
